I normally weigh myself in the mornings... but for some reason I stepped on the scale and was so happy to see what it said...

I always see people on here post that they gain weight after going GF....

But I've lost 13lbs total (I seem to be stuck there) and I've lost almost 5lbs of fat weight!!!

Anyone else experience the same?

I'm so stoked!!

I lost when I went GF. My friend was always severely underweight gained weight for the first time in her life when she went GF, it all depends on how your body deals with gluten. Congrats!

I've definitely lost, but I didn't seek out products to replace what I was eliminating .... no GF bread, pretzels, cookie or brownie mix, etc.

Same here. I lost around 20lbs, but I just cut out the gluten filled foods and replaced them with fruits/veggies ect. We don't do GF replacements often, once in awhile we'll make cookies/cake/pancakes, but for the most part we just go without.

I lost 10 pounds in the first two weeks. I had gained during my illness because the only drink I could keep down was coke and pepsi. All my energy came back and I could sleep properly. I do not think I realized how bad I had got. Happy for your weight loss.

I've lost 15 pounds in 5 weeks. No g-f replacements for the flour-laden foods in my diet from the past. Lots more veggies, a little more fruit and a little more protein to compensate.
  • I lost weight and toned alot once I went GF. Maybe people gained weight because they overate trying to compensate what they cut out.

I was quite heavy when I went gluten-free 12 year ago, and lost 35 pounds over a period of about three months doing no replacements (because there just wasn't that much available back then!), and nothing else (no exercise or anything). Sadly, as more "gluten-free" garbage became available, I enjoyed it, so I never continued the downward trend after that first big loss -- aiming lower now (and weaning myself off from all the junk carbs this time :-) ! )

ive lost weight too and some of it is attributed to cutting grains out but i think most of it is just from watching my calorie intake and excercising more.

I haven't lost or gained. But I've only been doing it for a week lol. I do have replacement foods but that is because I'm the only one in my household doing gluten free. We eat a lot of pasta so I figured I couldstill feed them what they like with something I can eat. We are also doing the slow progression of eliminating the unhealthy with healthy so our two young kids don't go into shock haha. My friend has went GF and DF and she lost 20lbs in 3 months but she did do the supplementing of GF products. Each body is different :)
  • I have been gluten free for a year and I lost 20 pounds initially after taking away gluten. Now I have been stuck, losing a couple of pounds one week and gaining it back the next. I am excited about myfitnesspal, since I will see in black and white what I am eating and be more accountable.

I lost initially, but once I started to add in the gluten free exchanges (bread, etc), I gained. Everything I lost, I gained. Plus some! Now, if I can manage to stay away from all that starchy stuff, I'll lose. But... I LOVE crackers. Crunchmaster GF crackers are so yummy, and I just can't stop myself! I've been better about limiting them, but its hard for me.

You have to watch your substitutions. We like plum dumplings in the family, but the substitution of rice flour (totally delicious) raised the calorie count to something like 3,000 cals per dumpling.

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease a little over a year ago and when I first cut out gluten, I gained 15 pounds over the first 8 months. I did try to keep my diet relatively the same with the gluten free substitutions. I found myself always gorging on gluten free food mostly out of a panic of like "omg I might not be able to eat anything later so I better eat now while it is available" and there was never really a point where I couldn't eat anything.

Also going gluten free made me feel sick all the time. I never had any digestive issues before (go figure) and then as soon as I cut out gluten I started feeling sick and nauseous pretty much all the time. This cut down my physical activity from going to the gym 3 - 4 days a week to not going at all which I am sure contributed to the weight gain.

I have lost for sure! Only been gluten free for a week now but through tracking I noticed everytime I ate gluten my weight would go up the next day. When I didnt eat Gluten it would go down. This last week being gluten free I have lost between .2 and .8 everyday! WOHOOOOOOOOOOO Also I am replacing the food I normally would have ate with gluten free products. However I am making sure I do not go over my calories.
