Solids...too much info. Help!

I was looking up how to introduce sippy cups and ugh, my daughter's asleep so I've been looking WAY TOO MUCH into feeding solids and spoon feeding/baby led weaning/straw cups VS sippy cups, early solids vs solids at 8 months...there's too many options! My daughter just turned 6 months (4 days ago) and she doesn't like baby cereal. Even when I mix it into fruit purees, she can tell and won't eat. But she's still taking 36-40oz of formula a day, so she should be safe as far as iron goes, right? She's not into spoon feeding, she prefers taking food from me and gumming it(vegetables, fruits and whole grain bread, no allergens) She doesn't have any teeth yet. She loves carrots, bread, banana, celery, green beans, apples, pears, oranges and clementines and Cheerios. I try to give her puree twice a day, or every other day, since she just doesn't seem to eat with gusto. Whenever I have a fruit or vegetable I offer her some and she usually enjoys it. Should I offer more purees? WIC said to feed solids and cereals 3 times a day! Am I setting myself and my daughter up for failure? Am I looking too much into this? I plan on keeping her on formula til 10-12 months. No allergies in our family, except my husband's mom is allergic to strawberries. How do/did your babes take to solids/purees?

Don't think so much about it. Did you try all the cereals that are offered rice, barley and oatmeal. My son preferred the oatmeal compared to the others and I would start with a little in his bedtime bottle and would gradually increase it over time to get him used to it. Then I would give it to him at breakfast either spoonfed or bottle and at bedtime so he would sleep better. You should really keep trying to spoon feed her or letting her pick the food up herself if your giving her table food. They do say that you need to go through all sort of different types of foods in case of allergies, which I did with my son but when I noticed he had preferences I would tend to keep going back to them. As far as the iron question you should really ask your doctor about that. Also have you tried to give her yogurt? Not the yogurt like you and I eat they do make a baby yogurt. I would keep trying with the baby food to get her used to it and try it at 3 meals a day. You can't force it on her but if you could get a bite or two in her and if that doesn't work go right for solids that she can gum down, She needs the food because formula will not satisfy her. I also used vienna sausages they are like hot dogs but softer and a lot cheaper than gerber meat sticks. My son loved them. I kept my son on formula until his first birthday then I switched him to whole milk with no problems. I also took his bottle from him on his first birthday and handed him a sippy cup with no problems. But not every child will do that a guy I work with started his daughter out with a sippy cup just to play with at around 9months and she took right to it. She is now 10months old and won't even take a bottle anymore only her sippy cup they also have her on half formula and half whole milk not sure if this is doctor recommended but it doesn't hurt to ask. I was always told no dairy till 1 yr old. I plan on doing the same thing with my daughter who is 2 months old. When in doubt consult your doctor. Every child is different and WIC is going on generalities not individual children.0

I wouldn't worry to much about it. My daughter is 6 1/2 months old and we just went for her 6th month checkup and i asked her pediatrician how to feed her solids and primarily nurse. I have a 3 year old but he was on formula so i never had to worry about my milk supply. He told me that he knows of 6 months old that eat a TON of solids and 6 months. He also knows a lot of kids that dont eat much, less than once a day. He said that its totally up to me and to let the baby lead. Right now, i am giving my daughter oatmeal and a fruit or veggie mixed in. She HATED rice cereal but doesn't mind oatmeal. I plan on working her up to about 3 times a day when shes about 9 months or so. I dont believe there is one way to do things. It's WHATEVER works for your family and baby. I think your doing great, and you guys will find what works best for you. Good luck!0

Don't overthink it. I know there are so many opinions out there that it can get soo confusing. My first son never ate that baby cereal, but he ate all the other foods just like your lil one. My Dr. said that was fine. You may want to try oatmeal instead of the cereal. I know some babies prefer that. My son didnt at first...but now he does.0

Food before 1, just for fun.
I introduced finger foods starting around 7 mo and gave her a sampling of most everything we ate - even if she just gummed it. She was also getting a sippy cup for practice by the time she could sit up (usually a small amount of water). Then got rid of the bottle around 11 mo.
Baby cereals are disgusting and no need for them if baby is getting formula or breast milk.0
