Are YOU a runner?

Recently I've been having this conversation quite a bit... For so long I was a running "hater," until dear friends got me involved in a wonderful charity that participates in a 1/2 marathon each year. The team leader kept telling me, "If you can run 3, you can run 13." And she was right. At some point during the training long runs, I stopped focusing on "getting done," and started to learn to enjoy the time outside. Especially when I got the chance to run with my friends.

Finishing was a huge motivator as well. It wasn't a great finish time, but I DID IT. Realizing that I could do it has been the game-changer for me. Because I realized I could do other things, too! Like do a 10k on my own at a much better pace, and start training earlier for the half so that I can do better this year. Ten miler coming up n early May, and I want to ROCK it.

So although I still do other types of exercise, I think I can say, "I AM a runner!" And I want to continue being one. Thanks for the motivation, fellow runners!!!

When did you realize that YOU are a runner?

Awesome story and so true! Mine was when I was doing a charity 5K for cancer a couple years after my dad and father in law passed away from cancers. That was 3 years ago. And I've been running since- even through pregnancy.
