Has anyone done NROL4W? How do they compare?

Hello
I am currently doing NROL4W...It is my first time lifting and I am really enjoying it. I think I have found a sport or activity that makes me happy and keeps me motivated. I chose NROL4W over Stronglift as i thought it has more exercises and I like the fact that you go through different stages with different routines. I thought it would keep me from getting bored. I am however still interested in Stronglifts and might give it a go once I am done with NROL4W.
I was wondering if any of you ladies have tried them both? What kind of results did you get? I am currently overweight and I am hoping to lose bodyfat and reshape my body.
What are the pros and cons for you in Stronglift?
It would be great to hear some opinions.
Thank you
Daisy

I have not tried both, but NROL4W seemed like it got more complicated in the later phases, and you need things like stability balls (technically my gym has them, but they are typically in use and no where near the free weights). SL was simple, and involved minimal equipment, so it's what I chose to go with. I personally have another 60 pounds or so to lose, and I've started the program to maintain as much lean body mass as I can while I lose fat. I know I am limiting my strength gains by eating at a deficit, but I'm definitely ok with that.
These are my results after one month on SL and eating at TDEE-30%:0 -
I started NROL but only made it to Stage 3. It took awhile before I realized it wasn't a good fit. The ultimate goal is to get you strong enough to do pull ups (if I remember correctly). Since I still have a ton of weight to lose, it's not the direction I wanted to go (yet). Stronglifts is more my style as it's simple, no fuss, no confusion. NROL got too complicated and "fancy".0

I started NROL4W....stage 1 was OK and I enjoyed it, except for a few of the moves that felt unnatural.
Stage 2 caused me to move to SL. I just couldn't continue with a program that required me to have the book open and out in order to figure out what to do and several of the movements were very, very unnatural feeling for me.
I do know lots of women who love it though. I prefer the simplicity of SL, the stripping back to basics.0 -
I agree. I think the original NROL is the best of them all. Haven't tried supercharged yet. The NROLFW just became too complicated and unnatural to me. I haven't started strong lifts yet and I am just finishing up the first stage, Fat Loss 1 of NROL. Not sure if I am going to continue with the program. I get bored easily and the next one includes front squats:grumble:
Really thinking about stronglifts but want to know if there are any women 50 plus doing the program Sometimes I think my body at this age should not be lifting this heavy weight. Got up to 75 lbs, 10 reps on squats. I know that is not a lot but I wanted to get to 100. Have low back issues but think it's from sitting all day. I plan to do pilates during this week that I am breaking from NROL So just trying to decide if I will do SL's instead. Need to lose about 10 - 15 pounds so I am still trying to figure this all out. How much food, calories, protein. So this thread is helpful.0 -

You, madam, are absolutely not too old to lift heavy! I'm 45 and just started Starting Strength (similar to Stronglifts) last month, and I absolutely adore lifting! There are many ladies here on this site your age and older that lift heavy. But if you are going to lift, you have to feed your body properly, because you can't outlift a bad diet.
I'm still figuring things out too. Every week is different and a new learning experience, it seems. But so far, so good. I've certainly not eaten this healthy for such a long period of time, in a long time, nor have I been this active. I quite enjoy it.0 -
If you are enjoying NROL4W then that is a fine program and you should stick with that. If you are not, its worth trying Stronglifts 5x5.
There is no MAGICAL weight loss/fitness exercise, program, diet, anything. The best program for you to do is the one you enjoy enough to do consistently.
There are certainly programs and diets which are suboptimal and not recommended, but ANY moderately non-retarded program will be fine.0 -
Hi ladies
Thank you for all the input.
I am enjoying NROL4W...I just like thinking ahead
I think Stronglifts will be perfect for me once i finished NROL4W. I am planning to do more of the New Rules programs but I think it would be nice to have a break in between and i think it would be especially nice to have a program that has just a few basic moves such as SL. You ladies seem to enjoy it and I like the concept of it.
I will be back in a few months joining you here0 -
I read the NROL4W book and it sounded too confusing and too complicated. Started SL a few months ago, so much more easy to follow and put into practice.0

I really liked Phase 1 of New Rules, but after that, I needed to carry the book around to remember the lifts and progressions. So, I like SL for its simplicity and it really works!0

Basically that.
I started NROLFW at a Planet Fitness - this one has no stability balls so I had to substitute, I had to do step ups in front of the window (only place with a step), smith machine. Looked at Stage 2 & other gyms. Switched to Stronglifts then a few weeks later, switched to gyms (yay squat rack!)
I liked it at first but looking ahead, it go far too complicated for me. I love the simplicity of SL, at 5am, I want simple lol0
