I have been wanting to start the Stronglifts 5x5 program for a few months now but do not have the equipment at home, and the Y where I have a membership only has a smith machine for squats..

I finally got the bright idea to get the sweet young gentleman in the wellness room to pick up the bar and help me get it up on my shoulders. Then he stayed to spot me and to make sure I had my technique correct on all my lifts. :)

While it really bites getting old and having my brain run mighty slow sometimes it sure did feel good to get in there and finally do it!

I had no trouble at all with the 45lb Olympic Bar on any of the exercises. Lets hope I do as well Friday night :)

That is excellent! I guess the sweet young gentleman will be getting stronger along with you as you progress with the weights?

    This is GREAT!!!!

How wonderful to nail that bar!!!

Seriously? The Y doesn't have a squat rack? I keep trying to think back to the few times that I was at our Y weight room with my son, and I honestly don't remember if it had one or not...

LOL, The sweet young gentleman is already pretty strong :)
Unfortunately he will probably be leaving the Y in a few weeks to start his career. He just recently graduated from college

And yes, the Y does NOT have a squat rack. Only the Smith machine. And our Y is not able to afford one either so we will NOT be getting one. Thank goodness the other young man working in the wellness room is strong because I already talked to him last night and he is also going to be helping me when the other young fella is not working :)

Congrats on starting the program and using the oly bar without a problem. If you have issues getting the bar in the right spot when you start adding more and more weight, some people without access to a squat rack do hack squats instead.

I have kind of a bad taste in my mouth from our Y. (Long, icky story)

I am so glad that you are still getting to do this!! (And that you got a nice strong guy to help you out; the guys in the weight room at ours were basically meat heads.)

Now I am off to check the hack squat auddii gave the link to. :)
