Cap City

Anyone running it? I am getting ready to register...this makes me a little nervous as this will be my biggest and longest race ever...I usually just do little small town 5k charity type things (if I do any races...)...

So! If you're in - what's your training plan like? Do you run with goo? What's a realistic finish time for a first half for someone that can run anywhere from a 10-11:30 minute mile depending on the day ;) I'm working on speed but probably will not use it for 13 miles :)

Did you register? This is my first half and I am excited...and nervous.

I have had IT Band issues with my left leg and patella issues with the right. I am babying my legs this last week...not minding the taper so much. I was really bummed for a while because I will probably have to walk some...but then I realized...I am in a HALF MARATHON. Nothing to be bummed about!

I trained with the MIT running group, they have a whole schedule worked out and everything. If you plan on doing another big race you should check them out.

I put 3 hours as my finish time when I registered...it took me 1 hour and 28 minutes to finish my quarter.....so I just doubled it. I really like the Jelly Belly Sport Beans.

    GOOD LUCK TO YOU!:drinker:

I just saw your response! How'd you do?? I did register and run it!! I trained on my own (well, with a friend who lives no where near me, so we followed the same training schedule). I shockingly made it through training without any injuries!! It was surprisingly "fun" and I will be doing Columbus Half in the fall!!! My knee is a little tweaked since the half so I haven't really run since then. I've been working with my trainer at work on some mobility exercises and alternate cardio. Going for a test run saturday :)

<----Finish line photo! :) Ran it and loved it. Did Columbus 1/2 in the fall and I must say I loved this course better than the fall, much flatter and the finish line was a ton of fun. Ran in 2:15 and hoping to be under 2:10 for the fall 1/2. Good job!

Wow!! This is flatter than Columbus half?! lol...Ummm...I don't mind hills but I didn't think this was all that flat! I will be doing the columbus half this fall! Awesome job on your time! I finished in 2:23...I'd love to come in under 2:17!!! I started strength training after the half and will maintain my running (once I'm running :)) until half training starts back up!!!

Yea in the fall you go through Bexley more down to German Village. Just wait until mile 11-13 as its all the way up High into Nationwide; that's the beast. Straight incline up! I hated it, pure torture for the last 2 miles! :) But the great thing is much better food, more organized and no crowding at the finish. It was so crowded at Cap you couldn't walk and my legs seized up, not good!!

Good luck with your training, weights will greatly help improve your pace.
