Who uses a food scale?

Learning proper portion control is my next goal.

I have two SUPER COOL spoons I got from a Weight Watchers friend years ago and have been using them for rice, veggies, and fruit. They are 1 and 1/2 cup measures. Since they are serving spoons it is easy to get the proper amount when throwing stuff on the plate. Additionally I've finally decided to go fetch my kitchen scale from my mother-in-laws pantry. I never used the darned thing because I hate dishes and didn't want to deal with the mess. As if I can't put Saran Wrap or wax paper on it, right?

Share what you are doing to learn what a proper portion looks like?

I wish I had the spoons that you mentioned. That would be a really good tool to use. I do use a food scale. Mine is digital, so if I sit my plate on it, then turn it on, it starts at 0. Then I add the food I am weighing. I was surprised at some of the portion sizes. Some things, I was not eating as much as I thought, some, a lot more.

I don't use a food scale yet (I don't have one). I do measure some foods. (At least until I have a good idea of what it looks like).

I'm sure some of my measurements are off. Some are probably under and some over. But I know that I am eating less than I used to. For now, since I have so much to lose, that is good enough for me. As I get closer to my goal, I know I'll have be more specific.

I don't. I measure food that can be measured with a measuring cup though haha. I think when I lose a bit more weight and my calorie deficit gets smaller that I'll invest in one. For now I just eyeball it based on how many servings there should be, etc.

Edited to add that if I'm not really sure, I over estimate my portion size when I log it.

I have those spoons and I LOVE THEM! My set came with three. I use a scale also and I measure EVERYTHING & ALL THE TIME, and it has helped me get to where I am now.

I was looking at what they've got on Amazon for portion control spoons. DANG, I got a deal when I bought my plastic 1/2 and 1 cup ladles years ago. They were like $12. That 3 piece Weight Watchers spoon set is anywhere from $35 to $40. They are nice, and they are stainless steel, but it seems a little pricey just for 3 spoons.

I do see Healthy Steps has a more gently priced 4 piece set and they also have some other nice portion control tools for things like cooked pasta, butter, dressing, nuts, etc. I'm kinda digging the "Meal Measure" thing they've got listed but don't think it is for me since I already have a handy set of spoons. It is a template that plops down on your plate with 4 wells you can fill that are labeled for what kind of food you should place in them. Each cavity is big enough for 1 cup of food with a 1/2 cup fill line. Not bad for $8.

I got a good deal then! I only paid 15$ for my set at a WW meeting a long time ago.
