How to Determine Calories Burned ?

Hey guys,

I love this challenge, especially because I put more emphasis on working out than the perfect diet ( I know, I know). But I was wondering what everyone is using for determining their calories burned.

For example, my home elliptical tells me that I burn 680 calories in about 30 minutes, MFP only gets to 680 by saying it was 40 minutes. I know the P90X workouts are designed to burn around 600 calories for about 55 minutes, but MFP says 55 minutes of Calisthenics would be about 831.

Obviously I want to use whatever tells me I've burned more, and since we're on MFP we should use what they say. But what is everyone else doing?

well its very diff 2 predict the exact no of cals burned ...though hrm is considered 2 b most accurate..........
still i am happy with my machine figures as they take inputs like age, weight, resistance levels etc........
if ur elliptical take such inputs then it can probably estimate correct ones...........

Ok, so I'll just continue to track my calories burned using my excercise machines, and match it up with MFP. Easy Peasy, again I was just curious as to what others were doing. Do you guys even enter you workouts on MFP? or just in this Forum?

    Anyway,

    Happy Burning!

According to my home elliptical, I burn over 700 cals in a 40 minute workout. Yea right..I wish I did ;)

I normally take 60% of whatever the elliptical says. Before my elliptical routine, I do 20-25 mins of calisthenics. According to MFP, I burn 79 cals in this time.

So, I end up logging about 500 cals per 65 minute workout. I think that should be fairly close to what I am really burning. I like to log it on MFP- it gives me a sense of accomplishment :) I normally do not eat all of those cals back though- just to error on the side of caution.

Whatever my actual cals are, my weight loss has been fairly consistent and seems to be in line with the math of where I should be.
