Hello all-
Well let me just say that when I was diagnosed, it was a very hard run... Most my life I have had a hard time losing weight. The best time was after my twin boys were born. I was on Yaz and doing Alli diet and pills. Here comes 2008 and my 30th birthday and all hell breaks loose! I became massively depressed (I forgot to mention that I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea since the year 2003.)
The doctor looked at me and plainly told me (without labs or anything), "you can't have PCOS you are too thin and have no acne plus you had two successful pregnancies (fat lost she knew, it was one pregnancy, two kids). You're bi-polar... here have some lithium and go to a psych doc. Well about 1 year later, up to 180lbs from 135lbs and several psych meds later that screwed me up even worse. My psych doc suggested I go to a endocrinologist (what I first asked the stupid doctor 1 yr ago!)
I was diagnosed with the beginning stages of PCOS/insulin resistance due to my heavy family history and my labs being a little wonky.
I was given Metformin 1500mg, told to keep the Yaz and go on a diabetic diet.... I have been non-psychotic and not needed any psych meds since that day!
PCOS sucks! I manifested in a non-traditional way and it almost destroyed me. To this day, I still and fighting my weight, but I am winning the battle for my health.

Welcome to the group! The one thing I have learned after finally be diagnosed with PCOS is that you have to be your own advocate when it comes to DR. I paid thousands of Dollars for DR's to do test to discover why I have high bloodpreasure but they never thought to look at my ovaries. I'm glad that someone finally saw that something was physically wrong with you not psycologically. I've also struggled with my weight my whole life. Good Luck with everything!0

I also had a doctor recently try to tell me that I didn't have PCOS...I have two boys (3 and 1)...the oldest took two years to conceive but the youngest happened the first month so this new doctor tried to tell me that I must not have PCOS....I finally stopped arguing and said just check me (I was obviously at an OBGYN) and sure enough I still have PCOS - maybe next time they will actually trust me....anyways - for the first time I am trying to lose weight...I was always an athlete and I was a little heavier than I probably should be but not much...now after having two kids I'm ready to get back that athletic body- do you find that metformin has worked for you?? Has anything specific helped you??0
