Ok ladies, tell me who your favourite belly dancers are. If I haven't heard of them, I'm going to look them up on youtube and watch them do their thing. And hell, even if I have heard of them, I'm still going to go and look them up! I want to know who inspires you, and what it is about them that inspires you.
And in return, I name Dawn O'Brien, my teacher, and Fulya, one of my favourite belly dancers of all time EVAR! Dawn introduced me to the concept of tribal fusion, and the idea that cabaret didn't have to be all teeth and t*ts, and also to Gothla which is one of my favourite dance events of the year. Fulya is poetry in motion - if you do decide to look her up, check out her Mata Hari dance.

Ooh, I'll have to check out Fulya!! I always find Aziza totally inspiring and energizing, as well as Sadie. Rachel and Zoe of course are always fascinating! Any of the belly dance superstars. Woww!! Also, locally, my troupe director Zattana Al-Naseem. She is an unbelievably creative and skilled dancer, and has expanded my world beyond my cab background into fusion, with wonderful prop work and even folkloric numbers. I owe much of my belly dance life to her and also to my original instructor, Janna, who never ceases to amaze me with her grace! Looking forward to the other responses. I know there are more dancers I've been impressed with on Youtube, but I can't think of them right now. Thanks for the topic!!0

I'm going to check these dancers out this weekend. Very excitingly, bookings opened for Gothla UK this morning, and I've just found myself booking ALL the workshops I can so I think my mojo is coming back. I've booked a class with two of my favourite dancers, Morgana and Elin Kaven, and I'm very excited.0

Bozenka. I went on a belly dance retreat she taught last summer -- awesome, awesome. She mostly teaches more advanced dancers but this was a combo of beginners and advanced with a few mixed classes. I highly recommend the experience.
Local (DC) but rising fast on the international and national scene is Sharzhad. Absolutely the most amazing undulations you'll ever see.0 -
I love Gina Bruno because she comes here to teach once in a while and is so sweet! At tribal fest 2012 my favorite individual dancer was Grace Constantine.0

So many dancers to look up - I know what I'll be doing tonight! I've got my dance troupe coming over and we're going to throw ideas around for our next performance, so maybe some of these ladies will inspire me.0

To name some who werent named, i love Souhaila Salimpour, on the more gothy side I like Ariellia even though I butcher her name and the ladies of Shakra, Amy Sigil and Unmata are awesome in a not totally traditional way, Kammie Liddle and Sharon Kihara are fun tribal fusion, Fat Chance Bellydance for pure ATS and Petite Jamilla can do a drum solo like nobodys business.0
