Time to get in shape for this riding season!

I'm so ready! I have had the worst luck over the last two years with my horses. To make a looong story short, I haven't been able to ride regularly since almost a year ago. I went through a depression phase where I've had no motivation to ride, or really even take care of myself well after all the bad luck with my horses (injuries, etc), but I am finally snapping out of it!

I still don't have any horses I can ride (other than putzing around at the walk/light trot work). But I am starting to ride some other people's horses now, and I have plans to show one horse at some dressage shows this season, and I may be able to show another mare in some hunter classes as well. Aaand, I have totally been bitten by the eventing bug! I am going to try to somehow find a horse that I can event this year, whether it means finding a way to buy another horse, or finding one who needs some ride time. We'll see what happens!

I rode today for about 25 minutes for the first time in a while, and after three or four laps of trot around the arena I was really out of breath and legs were starting to burn.. what happened to the old me who could post for 30 minutes without stirrups haha!

So my goal is to get down from my current 175 lbs. to 140 lbs. I'm 5'6" and 30 years old. I am working on making a weekly meal plan for myself and I am planning on really kickstarting everything this week with a whole new workout regimen, riding almost every day, and a new healthy diet! I am going to shoot for the stars and really try to beat this food addiction and lack of effort that I've had lately. My goal is to lose two pounds per week, and yes, I know that is a lot. I am ready for a huge, drastic change. It would mean that, in theory, I can get to my goal weight in just 4 months and that is a very exciting thought!

I am not just interested in losing weight, actually my main goal is to eat healthier. More organic raw foods, less sugar, etc...

I'm hoping to find someone who is super motivated, as I am, who is also a horsey person! Someone to check in with every single day, who is also interested in eating well and who I can share meal plans, recipes, etc with. Someone who understands why watching eventing and grand prix videos is my motivation to do this! :)

Hi, I turned 41 the other day, and I really find it hard to lose those extra weight. I have about 15pounds to lose, but even though I have quite a tough workout regimen and my diet is really not too bad, struggle to get rid of the weight!

I realize that the only way forward is to take another long hard look at my diet and clean it up a little! I'm already committed to a workout routine and have been doing it for the last 3 months.

I find that if my core is stronger and I am generally fitter and more toned, I am a much more effective rider.

I am terrible at mealplans and that is probably the biggest mistake I make. I sort of decide an hour or two before dinner what I want to eat and what is available in the house!! I should really work on that.

You are welcome to add me, if you like!

I'm so with you, I'm 62 and I have a cutting horse and a trail horse and I haven't been able to ride that much, and its because of my
weight. I'm working hard, watching what I eat, and I haven't had a coke in 3 mo. so why am I not lossing? but I keep trying, but its hard
I would love to have aouther horse person with me.. You with me?

  • I am in a very similar situation! I do not have my own horse but have been extremely lucky to have a now six year old TB gelding available to ride at my own schedule for three years. This May will be two years without consistent soundness. Some issues are his fault (let me stick my leg through the gate and pull something) or other things that required lots of time off. I hate going back and having to get refit for riding. During some of the off times I was REALLY good about going to the gym and got back into easily. Other times (like now) I am struggling and have lots going on outside the barn. I think I also need some SUNSHINE In my life, winter in Central Ohio is not beautiful. I now have ANOTHER grey TB to ride so I need to get myself together so I can get out there, I know a lot of people would die to have these two horses at their hands. I'm also working on redecorating the front room of my house now while my BF Is in Japan for two weeks. I gave myself quite a task to complete in a short amount of time, which means time spent at the house instead of gym or barn, argh!

Good luck getting back in shape and I hope your ponies stay sound for you!
