Odd hip pain?

I have been running for about 6 years. Recently, I get hip pain, running on the outside of my left hip that doesn't show up until a day or two after a run. The more and longer I run, the worse it gets. It goes away when I am running, but shows up again a few days later. The pain is right in the hip joint, and radiates into my femur.

If I take a long break from running, it goes away after about a week or so. This is driving me crazy as the weather is getting warmer, and my miles are about to go up.

My weekly mileage is LOW, about 9 miles per week, it doesn't matter, its any run that triggers it.

I would appreciate any thoughts/tips.

Thanks!

    Could be trochantric bursitis: http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/bursitis/hic_trochanteric_bursitis.aspx

I've had it for years off and on. I'm training for a half right now and doing okay. It got better when I was fit for running shoes and when I elevated my treadmill to 1% incline. I can run outside without issue. I do take Aleeve after runs.

Thank you! That sounds like it. Getting out of the car is always a challenge when it is bothering me.

Good luck with your upcoming half.

I was having IT band pain that was taken care of by getting 2 massages about a month apart. The problem was resolved and so far hasn't returned!
