Hello, I just joined the group so wanted to introduce myself. I have been on MFP for a long time off and on. First to lose the baby weight after my son- born feb 23rd 2011, then to lose the happy weight for my wedding- Nov 17th 2012, and now to maintain fitness for entry into the Navy. (My medical package will be submitted this coming Monday). I just barely meet thier height/weight requirements and had to work extra hard last minute b/c according to them I lost an inch in height somehow :( My current focus is getting out of the "just barely low enough weight' and increasing my situps (not bad so far), running (improving), and pushups (terrible, can barely do 5). I'm excited to be working with people with similar goals! :flowerforyou:

Thanks! Jessicah

p.s. If anyone has some helpful tips on the pushups (besides "do them") please let me know!

    Welcome Jessicah!

on the pushups I would alternate been doing them on your knees and military style... or switch up and just try doing what you can at knee/waist height... unfortunently the fastest way to get better at them is to do them... but if you weight lift (if not you really should!) just focus on the same muscle groups... it's slower but will work.

Congrats on the little one! He looks like a bundle of energy! and on your recent wedding!

  • A few simple things to help with push ups.

If you have access to dumbells you can start doing dumble bench press. Medium to light weight high reps. Include incline and decline as well. This will help increase the muscle strength in your chest and shoulders.

Also through out the day do wall, counter or car hood pushups. Just lean your body against an object and do pushups. Less stress on the body and you should be able to do a lot more this way. Max out every time. The more you do the more you will be able to do regular pushups.
