SimCity Fiasco!

So with all this hubbub about SimCity and the fiasco with the always online requirement. Is anyone here planning on getting it or...have you gotten it and actually been able to play. From what I've read it's still an EXECELLENT game once you get past the server issues.
I remember the whole thing with Diablo 3 and their always online requirement...then..people just enjoyed the game for what it was.
I have a feeling the same thing will happen here. There will be a lot of yelling, kicking, screaming, (mostly from those who haven't even played the game yet) and then it'll just die down, fade away and people will be able to enjoy the game for what it is.
I personally plan on getting it as soon as I see that the servers are stable. In fact I MAY do it before hand because on a post I read on Kotaku and on the EA message boards, they're going to be giving away a free game of your choice from the EA Origin catalogue on March 18th for those people who have it linked to their Origin Accounts.

I really like the Sim City games, but I am not a fan of online play unless it's an mmorpg. If they decided to do without the online req. there is a good chance I'd buy it. As it stands, no way.
D3 has certainly put a bad taste in my mouth - that game tanked (to be fair, it was for many reasons; not just the required online part.)
I hear it's starting to get better though. I assume it's in part due to the mass exodus of players (less server strain) and that they've added some stuff.0 -
I got it and kinda wish I hadn't. The game itself is fun, but the server issues have been awful... not to mention the multiplayer doesn't really feel like multiplayer. The few hours I did manage to play with friends, it more or less felt like a single player game, apart from sending resources and whatnot to neighboring cities.
Also you can only interact with cities that are connected to yours, so if you claim a city on the other side of the region as your friend's city, you won't be able to do any trading. Kinda crappy.
EA has alleged they'll be giving players a free game of their choice on March 18th to make up for the fiasco, but we all know EA, so it'll probably be riddled with conditions and only a small list of games.

I had planned to get it until I found out it was online only.0

I was going to get it when I first heard about it, but then I was like ehhhhh EA has ruined all my favourite games as of late. So I decided to wait until the price went down. Now I'm really glad I did. I think I'll just stick with Sim City 3000. It's pretty much perfect for fulfilling my city building needs.0

My husband was engrossed in this story yesterday via news sites. I personally have no interest in this game, but the online requirement seemed a little ridiculous for the type of game that it is.
In regards to free games, I think I recall Playstation doing something similar when there was an outage of accounts? The game list was very limited and most players already had those titles.0
