Hi!
Question: do you find that even while watching carbs you have to eat fewer calories, too? By fewer i mean even less than what you may calculate for a non PCOSers?
I went to a nutritionist and she used this little mechanical, electronic doodad to measure my metabolism. I doubted it be totally accurate but didn't think it'd be super far off. Anywho--MFP cals agreed with her assessment of 1600 cals for my 5'11, 233 lb frame. But nothing is happening at this level so I'm lowering it to 1450 cals a day. Thoughts?

I had discovered for me that MFP was way off MFP had me at 1290 calories and after an assessment at my gym discovered I needed to be closer to 1700.
I would be carefull about lowering it because you may slow your metabolism. I'd suggest to keep at te 1600 calories but weigh and measure your food closely you may discover you were actually eating more or less than the 1600 caloires you thought you were eating.0 -
Hey there! I am only commenting because I noticed your height. I am 6" and have found that most counters of any kind do not work for me. MFP has me set at 1770 and I have yet to figure out how to get that low. I now weigh about the same as you down from the 295ish range. My DR originally told me to stick to 1976 with 17-20% coming from carbs(around 80-90). I love veggies so I do not normally get that low. I definitely have problems with my sugar, insulin, and B 12 levels so she always wants me to watch the carbs. I don't know what your build is like but I would not advise getting down to 1450. It just seems way too low. My build, even when smaller is not skinny, it's a bit more muscle prone. I am now a size 20 but because of my build people always think I am smaller.0

1450 is about what I eat, and I'm 5'3", currently about 160 lbs. And losing.
I would be careful about going down that low... that is probably too few calories for you. How long have you been trying this? You have to give it a few weeks/a month or so for your body to start seeing results (exercising can kickstart this but it will probably be water weight you see come off). And the weight will come off slowly, but ANY loss is a loss. Slow and steady is better than rapid weight loss.0 -
Thanks, gals. I'm going to take your advice for at least another month. After that we shall see. I've been at this level for two months or more.0

I agree that you should be careful about lowering your calories. Personally, I can't lose weight if i'm not eating ENOUGH calories, which is something I didn't realize I was doing wrong with other diets.
Do you exercise? I'm insulin resistant, and I find that exercise (and eating back most of those calories) is another key to my losing weight. I'm 5'8 and get about 1650 calories a day. I notice a huge difference in my progress when i'm eating closer to 2,000 and burning 400-500 in a day vs. not working out and eating around 1,600.0 -
I'm 6ft and I have eaten 1700 for the last year. I'd be wary about cutting too much! When we're tall and overweight, it takes more calories to move us around. Don't lose out on one of the best benefits we have!0
