Half in 2.5 weeks and knee pain

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this group and I have a question:

I'm signed up to run my first half on April 7, but I haven't run in a week and a half because of a dull ache in my right knee. It came on after a super slow 13-mile trail run and it's not really getting better. I'm getting more serious about resting it (e.g. not going for hikes), but I don't know what to do about the race. In a painful but necessary moment I let go of any time goal I had in mind, but I'm feeling apprehensive about running the race after not running for weeks -- I feel like that's just asking for another injury. Obviously I'm not going to do it if my knee is still hurting, but assuming it feels better by then (fingers majorly crossed!!!!!!!) what do you think I should do? I'm at a loss and feeling despondent (and irritable because I haven't run in so long).

Thanks for your input!

Have you considered visiting the doctor? It could also be your shoes or a host of other reasons...

I would see a doctor. I missed my very first half because I had runners knee. I wasn't allowed to run for awhile. I know it's not the optimal situation, but you don't want to create a bigger problem!

You two are probably right. I need to find an ortho or a sports med doc -- my GP is useless with this kind of thing.

    Thanks!
