Hybrid for bad back

I'm really keen to get into cycling. I've tried a road bike and find the seating position hurts my dodgy neck and back so I'm thinking a hybrid may be better. Has anyone any tips on for example posture that may help.

If you have a bad back or neck, you should go to a pro shop and have them properly fit you on a bike. They will assess your position and tell you if you should ride something more up-right or not. Just so you are aware, many road bikes are being redesigned with taller head tubes for a more comfortable riding position.
My wife has had spinal fusion and rode a Trek hybrid for many years. She was desperate for a road bike and I selected a Specialized that had her leaning only 10 degrees more (45 vs 55) and in reality was only a 2" lower reach than the hybrid. She is very comfortable on it. Also most people hunch over when they ride. You need to keep a flat back (by pushing your chest forward, not your shoulders) and bend more at the waist. That takes strain off of the back & neck.0 -
