Vitamin D Deficiency

My midwife's office has started testing everyone's vitamin D levels when they draw blood for your 1 hour glucose screen. My results came back and apparently I am deficient in vitamin D  (On the bright side, my glucose level was great!) My vitamin D level was 24.8 and they like to see 32-100. They suggested that I purchase a kit called "D-Replete" and begin a high-dose supplementation to get my levels up and they'll retest again in about 2 months. I checked the info on the D-Replete kit and the dosage for the first month is 12,500 UI per day! That is a lot of Vitamin D! I trust my midwifes though - they are very pro-natural birth and holistic, so I don't think they'd recommend anything unsafe. But I can't seem to find any research stating that supplementation above 4000 UI per day is safe in pregnant women.

Have any of you ladies had your vitamin D levels checked during pregnancy and found out you were deficient? Are any of you taking a supplement, and how much?

The newest recommendation in the UK is that everyone take a Vitamin D supplement while pregnant and breastfeeding. In the UK, it's estimated 80% of adults are deficient, and a recent study suggests that 1/3 of children may have rickets caused by deficiency. So you are not alone!
However, there are no studies of such a high dose on pregnant woman. The ACOG will only verify the safety of up to 2,000 iUG a day. If it were me, I'd take a 2,000 iug a day supplement and save the D-Replete for after the birth of your baby. I would explain your concerns, maybe they know something we don't? Also you are fairly close to the recommended level so a lesser dose might be enough to get you where you need to be.

My oldest child tested low in vitamin D, and they wanted him to take a normal amount 400iu and get at least 10 minutes outside per day. He was just retested but I don't have results back. He is 7.

I was taking 5000 iu per day when I got pregnant and finished the bottle. Now I am taking 2000 iu per day. Plus whatever is in my multivitamin.

My doctor has me taking D3 along with my prenatal. I started off taking 1000 x2 per day, now I'm taking 400 x1 per day cause my husband bought me the wrong bottle :(

no idea if I am deficient or not or what the reasoning was, I just do as I'm told, lol!
