Brand Spanking New and Love (and Hate) CF!

Hey y'all. Greetings from TN. I just found group & started CF. By started, I have done 2 free introductory classes. I start Foundations next Monday. As a brief intro, I'm 52 yrs old & was obese from 20'ish to 40 when I lost 75#. Never set foot in a gym or played a sport until I was 45, so I'm starting a bit behind. I've worked out consistently for the past 8 years, mostly traditional steady state cardio, boxing, Zumba, etc. I've attempted to lift heavy for 6 months at home (learning now my form is all wrong). I really, really want to cut bodyfat, but don't care what the scale says. Current BF is 30% & I'd love to try for 23-25%. Can't go too low at my age or the wrinkles really start showing! :noway:
These 2 classes were eye openers. I loved & hated them. I didn't know I could work so hard in 9 min & 12 min respectively. The scorekeeping concept is taking mental work. Today my beginning WOD was 200m rows, 12 push jerk, 6 front squats AMRAP. I've never done any of this before, even rowing. There were 3 of us newbies & the other 2 beat me by an full round....ugh. Just kept chanting "finishing last is better than not finishing" & "I could have birthed every kid in this gym." I hope my crazy hard cardio (sprinting, suicides, running stairs, burpees, power pushups, etc.) 60 minute, 750 calorie burn, workout 12 hours before slowed me down & I'll do better next time.
The hardest mental workouts for me will be "do x number of these for time." Not sure if there's an acronym for that. Still learning CF language. I'll be finishing when everyone else is home having coffee.
Two workouts & I have bruised knees (burpees) & blistered hands, but I can't wait to go back!
Just wanted to say hey & introduce myself. To new for questions yet, but I'm sure I'll have some soon.

Stick with it and the onramp class will help you a lot. Jumping into a full blown wod is tough.
the acronymn is RFT (rounds for time)0 -
Welcome! Don't be too hard on yourself! I've been CF since July last year and there will always be someone better (and sometimes slower) than you - the main thing is to push yourself as hard as you can - without hurting yourself.
Walk out of that WOD knowing you did the absolute best you could do that day.
Add me for a friend and motivation if you like!0 -
Welcome! Stick with it and go slow til you get the form down. You're competing against yourself, not everyone else.0

2 and a half years a later, I too have a love hate relationship with CF. What I've learned as one of, what we call at our box the "Over 25 Crew" (basically anyone over 40), is to not take it so seriously, enjoy the workout, stop competing with everyone, it's only you against yourself.0

Thanks for the kind words and advice. I know I can learn CF and all that it has to offer. I just don't know if I can learn to turn off the competitive part of my brain. I'm sure it's going to be more mental than physical.
Either way, I'm hoping changing up my routine will change up my body too!0
