thyroid issues?

Hey there. Well, has anyone had issues with thyroid problems after having their baby? I recently had to go to the doctor because I had 5 weeks of uninterrupted bleeding, even though nothing had changed with the breastfeeding (my baby is 7 months old and this was not my first period). I was prescribed progesterone pills, she believed it may be a hormonal imbalance. Well, that worked for a couple of days but since then I have had on and off bleeding. She said if I still have issues even on the pills there is a good chance it has something to do with my thyroid and I will have to take a blood test. Have any of you had any issues like this? I am wondering if this is why it is so freaking hard for me to lose weight right now. It has never been this hard for me to lose weight and I am EBF (with some baby food now)! I would love some feedback! Thanks

I've had thyroid issues since before my pregnancy but it never caused long episodes of bleeding, in fact it didn't affect my cycles at all. Sorry I'm not much help, I hope you feel better. Get the test done.0

I started having thyroid issues after my first child, but I never had bleeding problems. My thyroid issues caused weight gain, fatigue and mood swings. Its not a big deal to check your thyroid its a simple blood test and can be corrected if there is a problem. My issues were brought on by the pregnancy and of course some family history I have hypothyroidism and cycle problems are not associated with that particular condition but there are so many issues associated with thyroids. I would just have the blood test done it can't hurt to rule it out.0

I've had thyroid issues most of my life, and while they didn't affect my periods or bleeding, they have affected everything else. If my thyroid is off, it affects my weight, skin (dry), moods, etc. Getting it regulated shouldn't be difficult though. Good luck!0

I've had a hypoactive thyroid since I was 14, probably before. Since I first got my period at 11 I've always had crazy, unpredictable bleeding. I can have a period or just bleeding that will last from 2 weeks to 3 months straight or I can go months on end without one. I also have PCOS so the odds for crazy bleeding are stacked against me. I didn't have any bleeding after my son until I got on birth control (Nexplanon- implant that goes in your arm) and for the first 2 weeks I didn't bleed, I had a regular period, it stopped for 6 days and I have been bleeding again for 3 weeks straight. They say that can happen but I wonder if my thyroid issues and PCOS play a part in it.
Thyroid problems can and probably will play a part in preventing you to lose weight, I would definitely get it checked! I hope you get it figured out!0 -
I don't have thyroid problems (that I know of), but it runs rampant in my family. My grandmother, mom, at least 2 female cousins, and 3 uncles all have issues. For my mom and my cousins their problems crept up after having babies (all underactive/hypo). I haven't had my thyroid checked since the initial pregnancy blood work but plan to ask about it next time we're in to see the doctor. I, too, am having a hard time losing the baby weight whereas last time I lost weight it was surprisingly easy. I'm also shedding hair like crazy, which I know is normal after having a baby, but there are days where I feel like I'm going bald. Now that others have mentioned it, I have been having pretty bad mood swings lately (my poor husband!), I feel way more tired than I should be, and my skin is so dry that my hands bleed on everything. I didn't know thyroid issues could also cause period/bleeding issues, but I've had heavy, painful, some times irregular periods for years. Anyway, not sure if what's going on with me is normal post-baby stuff, or if my thyroid is starting to act up, too.
Keep us posted!0
