So I've just watched this video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRMiUtscrHw
And I feel so much better about my squat now!
I've seen loads of you referring to high bar vs low bar and I've not had the chance to check out any videos as I've wanted to check my form etc. My boyfriend said it was fine but said I was possibly leaning forward a bit too far (upper body) and then my workout partner (his mother... very very new to lifting!!) said my bar was very low. She has hers on her traps which actually hurts her... but I don't say anything because I can't possibly be right about anything...
anyway... my bar is more on my delts. so quite low.
When I read there was a difference I was most interested.
So I watched that video.. and now I know my squat is OK!
I am a low-bar'er! And I'm ok with that.
I'm not quite comfortable enough to put a vid of myself up yet.... BUT...
1. I am going to paralell
2.Hells are firmly planted on the floor
3. Bar is going up and down in a straight line
Yes I lean.. but low bar allows me to.
The boyf has been shown this video so he can now stop picking at this.. I've tried to explain to him that I can't do it any other way! I've tried having the bar higher and it doesn't feel right and I feel quite unsteady.
I'm not particularly tall.. about 5ft 8 but I have a relatively short body in comparison to my legs and this works for me

I do 'low bar' squats too. On Rippetoe diagrams, the upper body leans far more forward on low bar squats and is more upright on high bar squats.
Like you, I feel more comfortable with the low bar. Lifting rocks :drinker:0 -

I've tried high bar, but It isn't comfortable for me. Plus, I get major glute and hammy doms from it which I looooove
Lifting is awesome  I've never enjoyed training this much!0 -
I like low bar, too! It's so important to find what works for you. And yes, lifting rocks.0
