A saffron extract supplement will go into your intestinal system, go into your brain and stimulate the same feeling an emotional eater would get from eating, say, carbohydrates. It gives you that feeling of relief without that short-term hit from the carbohydrates. So, when you see food, you don't have to put it in; you don't feel addicted to put it in there. You have the ability to say 'no.'

I read this today and heard that it was on the Dr. OZ show... I want to try this extract. Anyone willing to see if it works?

My mom and I both know stress, anxiety, and stress eating are triggered about 3pm everyday. If we take this extract it could let our weight loss efforts continue instead of getting sabatoged by cravings.

What yall think?

I did some research on saffron extract supplement ,and also looked at Dr. Oz and his explanation. It does seem like a promising supplement for those of us that get cravings and are are emotional eaters. Apparently,it affects your seratonin level, much like, prozac would. Saffron is safe when consumed as a food, but as a supplement,it may trigger side effects, such as dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, headache and nosebleeds. Also,if taken in excess(it can be toxic and fatal). Saffron supplements should not be taken by anyone with a serious mood disorder(such as bipolar) or anyone who could possibly be pregnant. It can harm the fetus and cause miscarriage. Other than that,if taken in doses recommended, it seems as if it may work as a mood stabilizer and help with sugar cravings. Also, sounds as if it is not a quick fix. The research done, says it will take from 4 - 6 weeks to notice an effect. I am a firm believer in alternative medicine and think this could be helpful, but please check with your doctor. Sometimes, supplements aren't always innocent. I like the Dr. Oz show, and think he has great health tips, but do know,he is being paid to promote supplements.
