In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
Fans of the original will either love this, or hate it. Jane Levy was BRILLIANT in it, I actually could not think of anyone that could play that role any better.
Very gory, and not that CG stuff we have grown used to. I was not bored. However, I was not scared either.
I found a few things that rather 'bothered' me, later in the film.
****SPOILERS****
I was disappointed that they did not give us any kind of timeline. The beginning scene was a set up to what was coming, but it never let us know how long after the beginning scene the kids reached the cabin. That point is more important than one might think. It begs the question of how old that demon is, and how many times this has happened.
The other thing that bothered me was near the end, when David buried Mia, he only left her there for a minute or two. Not only are we to believe that he knew how to make a defibrillator out of random stuff he found at the cabin, but after being alive when she went under ground, it only took two minutes for her to die. Then he uses said defibrillator three times to no avail, yet a moment later, she is not only alive and standing up, but perfectly fine. No burned skin, no cut tongue, just like nothing happened. I actually kept thinking she was going to change back, and quite frankly, that would have made more sense.
The main thing I learned from this film, is that duct tape really is for anything!
