Hip Pain

Hello fellow runners! Did you ever experience hip pain? What did you do? My right hip has been been bothering me for one week now- it's ok when I run. The pain is inside the bone. Any thoughts? Thanks!

If it feels like it's in the bone and you feel the worse pain when you step on that foot, you need to have it checked out ASAP. It could be a femoral neck stress fracture. Something you don't want to mess with. If it feels like it's muscular in the front of you hip then it could be a tendon issue, not nearly as serious. I would at least try to talk to a trainer or PT person if you don't want to see a doctor right away.0

^^^THIS THIS THIS. I was training (very smartly) for a marathon and about a week before my race, had a wonky pain in my hip that felt like the joint - not muscular. Ran my race the next week but DNF at mile 17. Took me suffering through three more weeks of pain before I finally went to the orthopedic - regular xray didn't show the fracture but the MRI was lit up like a christmas tree - 30% inclusive fracture of the femoral neck - exactly what they mentioned above. Fortunately I didn't have to have surgery but I agree - you DO NOT want to mess around with your hip & make it worse. If you have the opportunity and resources available - get to an orthopedic ASAP and no running till you rule out a fracture.0 -
If it's a twinge, I make a mental note and move on. Anything that twinges more than a few times, I would have checked out. I error on the side of caution because I would much prefer to run long term.
Also- not necessarily applicable to this instance, but when I experience a different ache or pain, I check the mileage on my shoes. My body knows when it's time for new.0 -
