How I regulated my cycle

Hey gals, you may have seen a few months ago I made some comments in other posts about how I was trying to regulate my cycle naturally (or without prescribed medication, anyway). Anyway, I'm happy to say it worked. I'm on my third regular, 28-day cycle after not having a period for a year.

Just a little background; when I was 17, I went on birth control for irregular periods and to help with acne. PCOS was never brought up at this time, I'd never even heard of it at that point, because I didn't have any of the other symptoms normally associated with it. When I was about 22, I went of the pill for the first time because it was causing me emotional distress (I was pissed off all the time for no reason what so ever, my relationships with family and friends were suffering) and something in me told me it was the bc. So I went off it and things got better. I wasn't until I was about 24 I started having problems like weight gain and facial hair, and I was still having irregular periods and had acne. It was then the doctor did some tests and I was diagnosed with PCOS. (Side note, about this same time I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, an intolerance to gluten) He put me on the pill and while things didn't get better, they didn't get worse, either. Shortly after my wedding in December 2011, when I was 28, I stopped taking the pill again for the same reasons I did before.

Between January 2012 and December 2012, I didn't get my period, at all. I tried some different things to get it started, but nothing really worked. I didn't go to the doctor (stupid, I know) because I was fed up with doctors at that point. My symptoms pretty much stayed the same, the didn't get better or worse after I stopped bc.

January 2013, I'm worried because my period hasn't shown up yet, but I still don't go to the doctor because I'm a stubborn idiot. I do some research to try and "restart" myself, and resolve that if it doesn't work, I'll finally go see a doctor.

Wow, okay, that was a little longer than I'd intended, but I felt a little history was needed there. Anyway....

The basic steps I took:

1. I cut out all gluten, dairy, soy, sodas, and cut down on sugar drastically. I eat more vegetables, fish, and the like.
2. I added some supplements to my diet: Women's Ultra Mega Multivitamin, Primrose Oil, Cinnamon with Chrominum, Milk Thistle, Vitex, and Liquid B Complex. All of these I get at GNC.
3. I started applying a natural progesterone cream. At first, I used it every day for a month until I finally got my "first" period. After that, I only have to start using it about a week before I want my period.
4. I kickbox about 4 days a week, weights 3 days a week, and attend a pole dancing class about once a week. (The last two I haven't been doing in the last month because of an injury, I've recently started again)

I haven't really cut down on calories, I'd say I eat between 1600-1700 daily, same as I did before, and I don't regularly weigh myself (actually, my scale broke 2 months ago) so I don't know how much I've lost, but I've seen a difference in the mirror and so has my husband. I've been feeling better since I've started and I've pretty much got a regular cycle now. I'm hoping in a few months I won't need to use the progesterone cream anymore to start my periods.

If you have any questions, I'll try my best to answer them.
