When is everyone performing next?
If you don't perform (if you're still learning, if you're too busy etc), do you think you would like to?
I'm doing a duet with a troupe member on saturday afternoon at a local sparkle sale and mini hafla. It's hopefully going to be a very relaxed event, I might even get to sell some bling that I don't ever wear and make a little pocket money. After that my troupe are concentrating on Gothla UK and our performance piece on the open stage.

I am taking a workshop tomorrow, which is in combination with a drum workshop. The first half, we are in separate studios, the second half, we solo to one of the drummers. We then have a community Hafla in the evening!0

Oooh, a sparkle sale performance sounds funnn!!! And Imalexgirl, that's awesome!! You seem like you've come so far - performing, taking workshops, dancing to a live drummer!! How wonderful!! I've only danced with a live drummer once or twice in the 5+ years I've been dancing! Would love to get more into that.
My next performance sounds somewhat similar to yours, Miss Daisy. It's for an event called Primp, Shop, and Pamper, and it's a fundraiser for, I believe, United Way. Shimmying for a good cause. It should be an informal relaxed event. My next BIG performance is A World A'fair, which is a huge cultural event. There's food, alcohol, entertainment, and shopping from TONS of different nationalities. There's a Germany booth (with tasty beers), a Japan booth with awesome wares and delicious sake. And tons more. Then there's a formal and informal stage where there is continuous entertainment going on. German, Chinese, French, and Irish dancers, etc. It's awesome. We're doing the whole weekend: 2 days of cab sets, including a cute new cane number we just learned, and one day of folkloric, including a gorgeous new Persian number we just learned as well. I'm excited if you can't tell!! Eeeeee!0 -
My troupe is dancing at a street festival mid-May. I know i can commit to relearning some choreos by then (been out of dancing for a year and half). I haven't decided if I'm doing a solo. it might depend on how things are going with teh group numbers and how much of my stamina I've rebuilt. I could also convert a group number to a solo. I'm the only memeber who learned it at the time left in the area.0

Wow, you ladies are awesome!!! Aerochic, no way could I learn a new dance in a couple of weeks- seriously impressed! Izanami- I also attend African dance classes with live drumming at least once a week. It's definitely a more "festive" atmosphere than my other classes- very fun!
Next performance is at Tribalfest in May, then after that local performances (Reno ArtTown and Riverlights) in July. Also attending a workshop by Gina Bruno next weekend and 2 workshops at Tribalfest...maybe more... Its a happy time of year! :happy:0 -
We're at a street festival on May 18 and then a big stage show on June 9.0

Honestly Heatherloveslily it's not learning a new dance it's relearning old ones of which I have notes, videos, people to 'follow'. I will be keeping the number of dances down so I don't have to relearn them all.
if I do a solo I kind of do a planned improv 9I want to do this move during this part of the music but I'm not sure how i'm going to get into or out of). of course if i just do a solo no one knows if I screw up as long as I don't make funny faces.0 -

The street festival was this weekend. It went pretty good although it was windy and kind of cold (low 50's). I ended up not doing a solo, but did several group pieces, of which 2 were improv with loose formations. I kept screwing up the arms on one of the pieces and my husband pointed out that i was late on most stuff and my improv was a lot more boring than it used to be, probably becuase I was watching others to make sure I'm right. (typical honesty from him). Timing has always been my weak point I either don't have the confidence and so am late due to 'playing catch up' or because i'm over anticapating the move and am early. I just need to keep practicing and what skill I had will come back.0 -
I have a performance opportunity with my teacher's tribal group on 28th June. I think it's all going to be improvised, but the teacher has said she'll lead us so we don't have to worry about stealing the lead or anything!0
