My name is Ruth, and I am returning after months of floundering. Already in the past week Ive lost 3 pounds. I found a personal trainer- he lives and trains me at his house, which is two houses away from mine! And I'm counting and recording my food. I had been only paying attention to carbs since I have to figure out boluses, but I also have to calorie count to make this work.

I am 47 and have had type 1 since I was 7 yrs old. No complications. I have been on a pump for 19 years. I have two teens, aged 16 and 18. I am an artist.
My big challenge is keeping my blood sugar stable when I exercise. I am using a book by Ginger Veira to help me.
Nice to have your support cause I know you all "get it!"

Welcome, Ruth! You'll find that most people here struggle especially in the beginning with balancing BS, exercise and ever-changing insulin needs. But it can be done! It will take some work, lots of lows, and some experimentation to figure out what works for you. I've found that exercising at night following a full meal and not bolusing for it until after my workout works pretty well for me. The trick is to keep at it and be patient.

And on a person note, what kind of work do you create? I'm an artist as well working mostly in oil or acrylic on canvas. I've been selling as a professional artist for the last 9 years. I was diagnosed T1 about 16 years ago and have been on a pump for 10+ years.

Hi! Just wanted to say that I am friends with Ginger Vieira on FB - if you have any questions beyond what she says in her book(s), she is very willing to answer them and help out. If you have a FB account look for her there!

Hi Ruth! Welcome back:) Let's get the job done this time! This is my 2nd time back also. I've been hanging in here now for about 12 weeks! I feel like I'm in a great routine and this is easy. My weight loss hasn't been so great but I keep changing things because nothing is working for me. But I'm not giving up until I find "IT".
