Quad Screen and weight gain

I went to the dr today and had my second blood draw for my quad screen. He said the results will be back at least by Friday. I'm hoping for a normal result just for some extra peace of mind. Has anyone else had it done and gotten results back already?
He told me to watch my weight. Of course today had to be the day that I gained 2 pounds in one day! I guess it's probably water weight because I haven't eaten that bad, for sure not to gain like that! I'm hoping my weight will level back off to what it was. As of today, that puts me at a 6 pound weight gain at 17 weeks. I guess that's not terrible but I have been wanting to eat a lot more lately. Not that I'm actually hungry, I just want to eat! lol How's everyone else doing?

I went to the hospital yesterday for my second scan to confirm my due date and for the nuchal fold test. My due date is now estimated to be 28th October and my baby is in the low risk categories for all defects, so I'm a happy mummy. I'm now looking forward to soon telling the older kids.
So I'm now 13w+2 and am about 5lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm eating loads (around 2200-2500 calories), but really busy at the same time. I sometimes gain a little bit, but overall am losing about half a pound a week. I'm sure this will turn the other way as I get bigger and slow down. I'm not worrying about it. Fatigue is still my only symptom at present and I'm still sleeping 9 hours a day.
Last Tuesday/Wednesday my shape changed. I'm too plump to be sporting a bump as yet, but am definitely rounder! Waists are becoming a problem and I too am considering pulling out my maternity clothes and washing them through. Don't think I kept many this time around so I may need a shopping trip in the near future.
I am feeling occasional flutterings, but nothing substantial unless I have a really full bladder and then baby insists on doing it's aerobics! Our anatomy scan will be the next big event, booked for 11th June and I will be finding out for the first time in five pregnancies what this child will be. Super excited!0 -
That's exciting to be finding out the sex this time! I don't know how you could have waited with the others! There's no way I could do that! I still haven't felt the baby yet! I believe I was about 19 weeks with my other one so I'm still patiently waiting. It would just be nice to be able to have that extra reassurance of feeling your baby move!0

I went to the doc on friday. I had gained 2 lbs in the 4 weeks, but still down 2 from prepregnancy. My nurse seems more concerned over my weight gain than my doc. My doc in all 3 pregnancies has never made a comment. I feel she should have with my first with all the weight I did gain. 14w1d today and down the 2 still. I know it is inching up but if I could keep it a half pound weight gain a week through the 2nd tri I would be happy. I am eating more. I have my calories set to 1750 but I seem to eat closer to 1800-1850 a day. My goal is to gain only 10-15 this pregnancy. I started pregnancy 25 lb overweight. I did manage a workout yesterday. Only a 30 minute walk but felt very dizzy after I finished it. I am struggling keeping in my workouts. My low blood pressure is causing a lot of issues this pregnancy and if I get just a tiny bit thirsty or hot, I seem to try to pass out.0

To be fair it takes very little to wobble my stomach after four previous pregnancies as my core muscles are completely shot, so a 69mm baby stretching out has no trouble at all!
My four previous pregnancies were all boys and I wasn't bothered about not having a girl. This time I know it's probably our last chance for a daughter now I'm 35 and if it's not gonna happen I want to be over it before baby arrives. Or if it is a girl I have nothing girly whatsoever and will need to do some major shopping! Still I expect it will be another boy.
I do hope you all have good news from your quad screens. While staring at the screen during the scan it was easy to dismiss what the tests actually mean. When she had to go away and check her calculations with her supervisor it got a bit real for a few minutes and I had the thought 'what would I do if baby wasn't ok?'
I also weigh myself at home first thing in the morning and ignore other scales. My weight is completely different on every one.
jchepulis I don't envy the passing out. Doesn't sound too much fun. That you're even still trying to workout is amazing. 25lb overweight is concerning but not too serious (and less overweight than me). Unless there are serious consequences to you gaining a little more weight now I'd take it a bit easier. Your weight gain seems pretty reasonable so far and if you must workout then I'd do it for shorter periods. Has anyone really only gained 10 pounds throughout a whole pregnancy? I'd have trouble doing that during a normal nine month period and yet that's what I've been told to gain too! My last child was 8lb 13!0 -
kcasey, are you going to find out what you are having? I am anxious for you. I will not find out the sex of the baby, didn't with the first two but I have a boy and a girl so really it doesn't matter. There are no consequences for me gaining weight. I am pretty fit (even for my weight, I was running 10Ks before finding out I was pregnant and contined to run until about 10w). My doc is not concerened. I did not get diabetes with either one of my pregnancies. It really is just a personal goal for me. My doc has not given me a number to aim for. I do think 10 is probably out of reach. But, if I could do the 15 I would love that. My last pregnancy I gained 27. I lost all that plus 3 in 3 weeks after having him and even after a c-section! I just keep thinking if I gain 15 maybe I will be down 15 from my pre pregnancy weight after 3 weeks. How amazing would that be! I would be 10 lbs from my goal. But, time will tell, my energy level, and if I give into cravings. Best thing about this pregnancy. I dispise fast food except subway.0

Yes, I will be finding out this time. The magic date is Tuesday 11th June! (20w+1) I didn't find out with the first four, so this will be a first for me.
The pregnancy weight gain calculator says between 15 and 25 lbs is reasonable weight gain for someone with a BMI above 26 and this seems doable to me. If I was to gain a pound a week from here on in I'd be just about fine, not that I plan to. And yes, if we were to gain just 25lbs we'd probably lose that gain during birth and be back to where we are now. I've never tracked my weight during pregnancy before either, so this is another first. Before I just got huge and struggled to keep going towards the end.
I must admit to having no plan for weight loss or workouts after birth. With baby due in October I'll probably leave it all until the new year and just concentrate on eating healthily. I know I'm a long way off from reaching my goal weight, so it must be exciting to see the end in sight. Energy levels and cravings, yes, they may be key. I must try a Subway one day as everyone raves about them!0 -
Well I thought I should share with you guys that my Dr called me and my screening came back positive for spina bifida. My Dr told me I shouldn't worry and that I will need to go for a level 2 ultrasound at around 19 or 20 weeks. He assured me that everything's probably fine and that about 95% of the people he sends for this level 2 ultrasound comes back with normal healthy babies. I really think everything's fine but its hard not to worry. I'm hoping to go ahead and get the ultrasound asap so I will know something. I did read that if you're farther along than what your dates are, you could get the false positive for spina bifida. I'm hoping this is the case for me. All along I measured farther along than my due date that my Dr gave me and now I'm measuring about a week ahead. I would appreciate prayers!!!0

Thoughts and prayers here - that one has a high false positive rate so I am going to pray that that's true for your little one!0

Sending positive energy your way. I'm sure all will prove to be fine at the next ultrasound x0

Thoughts and prayers with you JM!
We thought my son might have that when he was a few months old, and then an ultrasound done at the wrong age made it look definitive.. thankfully he is totally fine. Looking forward to hearing that your little girl is too!0 -
Thank you ladies! I'm trying to keep it together until my appointment which hopefully I'll find out tomorrow when it is.0

They called with my appointment today. I'll be having my ultrasound done on May 15th and I should find something out that day.0
