Stress Eating

So after over 8 months, since being sleeved, I have being good with my eating and avoiding back/ crap foods, and just like that in one moment, I let all my good work go to waste and pounded down some fun size chocolates after a very stressful morning.:embarassed: I have been over eating the last few days mostly due to stress and I need to confess it to someone/ anyone. I'm really sorry that I ate all the chocolate not only because of the wasted calories, but because I physically feel sick - too much sugar and too much fat:  I am going through a very stressful time and I dont know what to do, since this stress is going to get worse. This morning was just the cherry on top of the sundae of this week, and I finally reached my breaking point (I will note I did not go out and buy the candy but someone brought it into my work last week - up until today I merely looked at the candy but never touched). I am a little glad that since the surgery I cant really overeat like I could before, but knowing that I can still get the craving and down bad foods, scares me as I know if I dont control it I can regain my weight.

I just needed to confess. At this point I know what to do when the cravings begin but lately I have been feeling so powerless to control it that I just gave in. :grumble: I just want to express my anguish and stress in some physical way and eating is the only way I know how to do it. ARGGGG

Thanks for listening

Take a deep breath! I think most of us "veterans" have been there. I don't punish myself when I have a treat every once in a while, but I do also catch myself stopping by my work neighbor's candy bowl a little too often when I'm stressed or frazzled.

I'm not necessarily very good about following my own advice, but lots of people will tell you to try and substitute some form of exercise with food when stressed . . . so depending on where you work or your environment, you might want to take a walk around the block or around your building when you get the urge to snack?

    Good luck!!!

I agree with MeganW. We all have done this. I also like her idea of substituting the stress eating with something else like a walk. Also know that although you can't "over eat" because of your sleeve, it's only over eating at one sitting. Don't be fooled. You can still out eat your sleeve. We all know that if we want, we can eat more about an hour after we finish eating, so eat a few cookies, wait an hour, eat a few more, etc. You get the idea. You still need to be careful.

Now the good news is you feel physically sick. Next time you reach for candy during stress try and remind yourself of how you feel right now. Also, try and keep something healthy you can substitute for the candy during stress, a sugar free something, preferrably with some protein to it, in your desk. You will be less likely to get into the "real" candy if you have your own stash. And don't beat yourself up. We all struggle with not returning to old, bad eating habits. But you know what? You are stronger than this and you can beat it. Like my surgeon said to me, folks who have WLS are "hard core" about their health. What we've done to get healthy isn't for whimps! Just look how good you've done so far, you can do this!!
