Good afternoon everyone!

I cant seem to find a recent thread re this. Apologies in advance if there is.

I am currently still lifting in my Nike running trainers but the heavier im lifting, im noticing more and more how unsuitable they are!! lol

As much as I would love a pair of Nike Ramaleous2 I cant justify spending £120 on them!

I cant go bare foot (this would be my other choice) in the gym.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks in advance! :)

People use all kinds of flat shoes from Chuck Taylors to the barefoot shoe types. You can of course get proper weightlifting shoes. Adidas makes some that are cheaper than Nikes. As long as they're not cushiony/bouncy, they should work fine.

You would love to have them. That's your justification right there! lol From what I've seen on other internet forums is that some people will buy a cheaper weightlifting shoe then just buy a better pair soon after. I was hesitant too about spending so much money, but I just didn't want any other pair! And all the reviews I had seen pointed to the Nike Romales 2.

BUT if you really want something less expensive, one pair that may interest you are the Adidas Power Perfect 2.

Your next options are dress shoes, chucks or bowling shoes lol

Ha ha, you should have seen my husbands face when he saw the price though! lol

Unfortunately i am one of those people who will "just buy a better pair soon after"

The adidas PP2 do look good, I also like the Adipowers too! :)

I also came across these reebok's - womens, fully customisable (aesthetically) but also rather expensive!

But when it comes down to it, I am a bit of a Nike geek! lol

I love my Vibram fivefinger shoes. It's as close to being barefoot you can be with shoes :) Love em!

I think Fila makes some skele toes shoes that are similar for about $40-$50 but I haven't tried those.

I'm a Nike geek too. They just make my feet happy. So I say get the shoes you want, and keep an eye out for sales/clearances. I always get mine on sale or clearance locally because I simply refuse to pay more than $60-$70 for a pair of shoes. Right now I'm actually lifting in a pair of Nike Air Total Cores. They have flat soles and are super lightweight so they work for me. I wear them barefoot and just toss them in the wash when I'm done. They were my happy medium between the "barefoot style" shoes and a sturdier shoe, and I can wear them when I do my cardio stuff too.

I have a pair of Merrell barefoot shoes. I wear them as my regular shoes and gym shoes. But they are still a bit pricy ($100 in the US). I don't see myself going back to any shoe that has a heel to toe drop except for times I need to wear a boot or formal shoe.

I wear my converse all stars. I started with another dance type shoe that I felt so wobbly on. Switching to the the chucks made a lot of difference! Plus, I think they're pretty cheap *and* they come in cool colors.
