Hello

I've been advised to switch to sourdough bread as I have IBS, but living in North Wales I'm struggling to find it. I tried Tesco & Morrisons & couldn't find any.

Does anyone know if where I could find it?

    Hi

I recently went on a bread making course with a local artisan bread maker...he said he had a few customers who could eat his bread without getting the symptoms they got from eating other breads.

It's very easy to make the bread (hardly any kneeding)...but if you didn't want to make your own I would suggest local farmer's markets, deli's and small bakeries. It must be there somewhere.

    hope that helps a little...kat

may not be practical suggestion, but how about making your own? I did for a while

Would be easier still with a bread machine, in fact having just Google it I am going to give it a go myself

    starter recipe / method here

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sourdough-Starter/Detail.aspx

All purpose flour is plain flour

I had IBS, I found a big change of diet stopped it, your underlying cause may be different of course

PS is there a Waitrose or M & S near you? They are more likely to stock more non main stream items, and Google tells me Sainsbury,s sell it

I have bought sourdough in Sainsbury's and Tesco recently. From the bakery rather than the bread aisle if that is any help.

I have just made up my sourdough starter, ussing wholemeal flour, 4 more days of feeding, then hopefully ready to bake on Sunday

HatherM - get hold of current May / June Morrison's mag, out now. It has recipe on page 50 for a white Sherston loaf, or Goolge, seems it gives the old fashioned taste, but more importantly for IBS, not much yeast, proves overnight in the fridge

If time is a problem may not be convenient of course

A good alternative to bread containing wheat (if that helps IBS) is this nutty number:

I make it, slice it and keep in int he freezer then toast it whenever I want. Great with hummus, avocado, pretty much anything or on its own. You can get the ingredients from Holland and Barrett (and Psyllium husks are good for your colon)

Thanks, that does look interesting, I do not have the majority of ingredients but may give it a go once I see how my sour dough works out. Page bookmarked
