Antibiotics - breastfeeding - digestion issues

Ugh this is TMI but I should ask. I'm exclusively breastfeeding my 12 week old and 2 days ago my dentist prescribed amoxicillin for an infection. This has resulted in me having diarrhea. So I'm wondering if I need to drink extra water to make up for the water loss in order to keep my supply up. This sucks so bad

I would say most definitely. Dehydration is terrible for supply! Can you take probiotics? I found those to be really helpful early on when I had to take meds. If you can't, yogurt may help as well. Hope you feel better soon!0

Gotta love the way antibiotics kill off the good bacteria, too! My son has been on antibiotics a few times since the fall because of sinus infections, and they always give him diarrhea. My BIL is a pediatrician and recommended using Florastor Kids. (They do make an adult version, too.) The weird thing is that our local pediatrician, as well as my dad, who's been a practicing pediatrician for nearly 40 years, didn't know about it.
Anyway, Florastor is a God-send! It's a probiotic that survives antibiotics, so it will help get rid of the diarrhea. It instantly stopped my son's diarrhea (which was HORRENDOUS the first time because he was on Augmentin), so now we keep it on hand the same way we keep kids' Tylenol on hand!
You can buy it at any drug store, and I know CVS has their own generic version (Walgreen's may as well), which is good because it is a little pricey - but definitely worth it!!!
The difference between the kids' version and the adult version is that the kids' version is fruit flavored and has less probiotics than the adult version. Also, the adult version can be purchased as flavor-less powder packets to put in a drink (which is what the kids' version is) or in capsules.
There's really no downside to taking it, except that it can back you up if you overdo it, so you might want to play with how often you take it - maybe start with once a day and go up to two if you're still having loose stools.
There's also Culturelle, which is another probiotic, but I believe it kind of does the opposite, that it makes you "go" when you are backed up.0 -

I was going to say this! Antibiotics can be brutal on your digestive system. Probiotics for the win!0 -
Yes I have probiotics from when I was on antibiotics during my pregnancy. I just remembered it after you guys mentioned it! I'm going to take them. Thanks0
