needing some serious help here... hot flash central!

Ok ladies, I am usually a lurker... reading posts but not offering much .... now I need help. I am 41 and have had a total hysterectomy. I am coping with it well for the most part and use bioidentical hormone therapy. My problem.... I am 50 pounds overweight now and the summer is fast approaching. My family is going to Texas at the end of May and I don't know what kind of clothes I should wear to be cool. I sweat... a lot... I don't "GLOW". I'm talking back and butt crack soaked to the point it looks like I peed my pants, even though I didn't. Should I go with long flowy dresses, short skirts, sports skirt type things, denim? I know this sounds silly but the fact is, I was wearing capri's the other day and I got so hot that when I stood up, my *kitten* was wet from sweat and it looked like I had peed. I even left moisture on the seat. And I am enough overweight that my thights chaffe and sports shorts ride up into the crotch region. AND I can't fit into the cute little golfer outfits that they make that are so good at wicking sweat. Think Jennifer Hudson size BEFORE weight watchers. Being summer, I can't do yoga pants... I really need input!

Any advice?

I vote for long, flowy dresses! They let air circulate around your body and you can flap them to use as fans when a hot flash hits! Be sure to wear cotton underwear, as they are more absorbent. Synthetic fabrics will only make you hotter. Drink A LOT of water - it does help!

I also vote for the long, flowy dresses. They used to be favorite in the summer ... until I got a bunch of ugly permanent bruises after a missed step and tumble down some stairs. UGH.

I don't get hot flashes when it's cool. But during the summer they come on with a vengeance. It is not unusual for me to wake in the morning with damp jammies -- something I never had a problem with until my hysterectomy.

I did a quick search and found a blog that you might find interesting and possibly helpful. Here is a link to two pages that caught my eye:

Long flowy dresses, or maybe a nice knee length dress, i too have hot flashes that some days are unbearable, for me before i get dressed i use corn starch anywhere i can, it def helps.... Also when i take a shower in the AM or PM doesn't matter i turn the water to cool before i get out stand there for a bit and let my body temp get a bit lower that helps also.. Good luck!!

On the website, fab over 50, they had these pearl necklaces that you put in the freezer and wear to keep cool. You can also put a a small ice pack in a cotton scarf and wear it around your neck...

I live in houston.anything cotton saves me. I highly recommend a knee length skort in cotton. I have a below thr knee cotton jeanskirt i wear. Clored light weight jeans in khacki work well.

I go no where without a water bottle. It helps
