First Elementary School Goes Veg

I just posted over on HH, but for those of you not in that group. A NY public school is now serving all-vegetarian fare: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/queens-school-serves-all-vegetarian-fare-article-1.1331690

It's not vegan, but it's a GREAT step in the right direction!

    That's the kind of change that gets me really excited. Our school sickens me. My daughter's teacher gives out sodas and little debbie snack cakes for doing their work well, and when she forgot her lunch one day she thought to get peanut butter and jelly at least but they refused to let her have water to drink so she had none since she refused to drink milk they tried to give her. And they KNOW we're vegan. At my son's school they were doing a dr. seus week and my son's teacher without warning fed him green eggs and ham. And she KNEW- he was sick for 3 days after. =( If you look around most schools you can see that a wake up call is needed- so many kids are overweight already in kindergarten and now that so many are getting rid of their gym programs it's only going to get worse!

    I really hope more schools get smart and catch on

    My children's school only serves vegetarian food - and it's great. All freshly prepared and all veggie. It's fab knowing that they can eat at school, eat what the other kids are eating and that it's healthy, yummy vegetarian food.
