Geeky movies!

We just watched "Unicorn City" and well, it was awesome. A little over-the-top at times, but for what it was (and after we identified half of the film as people we know), we thought it was a good movie.

What are some geeky / nerdy movies that you absolutely love and why do you love them?

Transformers The Movie, because my Dad took me to see it at the cinema when it came out back in the 80s and an audible wail went around the cinema including myself when Optimus Prime died - man I hate Hot Rod :grumble:

    Ghost World
    Scott Pilgrim vs The World
    The Science of Sleep
    Amelie

    older (ie from childhood):

    The Last Unicorn
    Neverending Story
    Weird Science
    Real Genius

I'm in the minority that liked the last airbender - movie as well as cartoon series. I guess I didn't have too much loyalty to the cartoon as I wasn't overly concerned with the way the movie turned out.

I think "Scott Pilgrim" was the only one of these I've seen. I think the others are getting added to the list! :)

So I am going to ignore the normal Star Wars, LotR. Those movies are awesome but have mass appeal.

    So...
    Goonies
    Willow
    Galaxy Quest

My husband can't watch Goonies with me because I recite the entire movie when it's on.

There was a period of time around 1986 where we had it on VHS and I would watch it every day when I got home from school.

Oh! In the same vein (geeky movies I've watched to the point of memorization): Beetlejuice.

Gotta get Willow for my kids - they would love it.

Not a movie, but went for a throw back and started watching Freaks & Geeks last night. Over 10 years later and it's still funny!

I had a pair of twin siamese colored tabby cats named Codo and Podo for a while.

    Also, I forgot to add
Earth Girls are Easy. (First movie I ever saw in a theater.)

Man, this is making me crave a good movie night. For me:
    Willow for sure!
Galaxy Quest is definitely on my list, as is Princess Bride.
Really, all the movies people have mentioned. When it comes to movies I'm not too picky, just want to be entertained.
  • Any Hayao Miyazaki flick (big ups to Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away)
Any Jim Henson Brian Froud callabo (I wanted to work in the creature shop when I grew up, alas)
Any Guillermo Del Toro flick (yes even Hell Boy Golden Army)
    Meaning of Life
    The Phantom Tollbooth
    Rocky Horror Picture Show
    Blazing Saddles
Video Game High School (I heart Brian D)
    The Point
    Total Recall (Schwarzenegger version)
    Oh Brother Where art Thou
    The One
500 Days of Summer (Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt I mean come on)
Mystery Team (Donald Glover is just the bees knees)
    Road House (don't judge me)
(so bad they're good: The Room, The Wicker Man- Cage version, Zardoz, Barbarella, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes)
(not a movie but by god if it were... Adventure Time with Finn and Jake)
I should stop now this could go on
