Dumbell Work

Hi, it's Sue...
As most of you know I have cerebral palsy. I can't do all the exercises an able bodied person can do but I try. My question is twofold: I'm using 3 pound weights and doing overhead presses, chest presses, bicep curls, and punches. I do about between 10 reps and 50
reps each session and thus far have only been able to talk myself into it once a week. I know I should do this 3 or more times a week
if I want to see results. I'd like to tone my upper body to see some definition, if I can. The only full body fitness I can do is the NuStep;
I can't do any lower body because there is nobody to assist me with it. Same with yoga.
Are there other exercises I can do for my upper body? I don't get the cardio high that I get with LS, Chris Freytag, Madeleine Lewis or
the NuStep. NS has some muscle building properties but is mainly cardio.. How do I get motivated to do sculpting when I honestly don't want to do it? Thanks for any input...

Hi! Have you tried doing any strength work with the stretch band? Several of Leslie's videos incorporate it, and I know you like her!! It is really an effective strength tool, and something different to keep things interesting.
As for getting motivated, you have to find that strength within you. You KNOW you need it. Schedule it. And reward you successes! (But not with food, ha.)0 -
Thank you Dorothy...
It's funny you should mention the fitness band...I couldn't talk myself into the weights, but I did do 20 minutes with the band just now.
Chest, shoulders and triceps. Maybe that's a start.0 -
Dorothy is right! Just knowing that you will be gaining strength is motivating! I know I got really toned using Leslie's videos and wo on a regular basis including strength training:)0

Great job! Even 20 minutes can make a difference!!!0

Right again Dorothy...I had some extra energy so I went back and did 20 more with the 3 pounders.0

Maybe if you didn't do so many sets it might not seem so bad. Start slow and work your way up. If that means only 1 or 2 sets of each exercise that you do then so be it. It's way better than not doing anything at all. I don't know if this will be helpful for you but somebody posted this link for this dumbbell exercise site. It has LOTS of information.
