by the time my love had died
it was from a death of a thousand wounds
so I'm sorry, just so sorry
that I don't regret leaving you

I am glad that it is over
though I know it didn't need to end that way
you know I truly loved you
and no matter what you say...

I gave it everything I had
and it never was enough
try as I might I couldn't get your respect
so how could I ever expect your love?

(I'm sorry) you never wanted a partner
(I'm sorry) you only wanted a pet
I worked so hard to be worthy in your eyes
but (I'm sorry) I haven't got there yet

for I did my best
(I'm sorry) I don't belong in your class
if I keep failing your tests

I'm sorry--just so sorry
that I'm not sorry for what I said and did
(but) I gave you everthing you earned
AND I'M PROUD OF IT

I gave you such a pain
