We started at 5:20am, Sunday the 19th, with a friend to join our team and show us the way. We forgot our head lamps and started in the dark with no jumpers and a small torch in hand to guide the group, on heavily washed out trails. That was fun... At least we couldn't see the steep long mountain in front of us that we were about to embark on. Amanda tripping over a guard rail, landing on her face, was the first of our entertainment. It was all up hill for the first hour.
We all got to the top and then carried on with another 3 steep inclines for another hour. The trail eased off after that. What a heart starter. Damn cold though. No feeling in the fingers at all... About 2 hours later, it was the loop back over the same steep country. Incline after incline. I was so proud of all of us. Especially, my brother, that has just joined the group and has been his longest ever walk in his life. He suffered with an inflamed ligament in his knee, but hobbled on and finished.
We had many laughes, great conversations and a good kick to our fitness. My heart rate has defiantly doubled since that trek yesterday. Very tired today, but recovered completely and with surprise, no soreness, just a little stiff in the hip flexors.
So our next training day is Sunday the 26th. This week I am doing my strengthening program along with a Bikram Yoga Session and a 60km bike ride. Woohoo! Looking forward to the results.
