So I've been a member of Parents Without Partners for a couple of years now. Our Chapter President is leaving and me and another person is stepping up to fill that void.

I feel like there are only a handful of regulars who attend events - and though I've sent emails and asked for suggestions on things folks would like to do, I get very few responses - but those who do respond I make sure gets on the calendar.

Any suggestions on how I can build a better chapter? What do you feel are the Pros and Cons of singles groups?

Struggling to see the downside of being able to meet members of the opposite sex who are single and who also have kids!

The trick would be to come up with new and varied things for all. There's the obvious like picnics in parks with the kids tagging along. And day trips to interesting places. You could also try different sports, including more exciting ones eg windsurfing lessons, rock climbing. Cookery masterclasses?

    I don't know why I'm answering this - I don't even have kids.

Actually, here are my kids... vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

It will be hard to find an activity or event that will appeal to all members of a group, so you will always have some attending and others not.

Darren's suggestion of offering a variety of activities, especially some that are "different", is good. This way you can offer something for (nearly) all tastes.

Having tried out one singles group, I found that I got bored because they always did the same thing and talked about similar things. Also, some people were trying too hard to find a new partner. It was rather off-putting, and that's why I stopped going.
But I have no solution on how to stop something like that. :)

    Best of luck!

You all are exactly right - it is challenging to find something for all--but I'd be happy with something for most~! The group we have would not be able to do rock climbing! (at least the ones I've seen show up mostly). I do plan to add a few different things.

Education (for adults and kids) - trip to an alpaca farm (wool, fiber, feeding, petting, etc)
Sports - local minor league games, bike riding with a picnic at the loveland bike trail, paddle boats at Coney Island
Fun - Free movie nights at a couple of local parks, BB Riverboats, free concerts at local parks, cookouts with water balloons and egg tosses, etc, zoo

    we'll see what happens.

How about rock climbing for the kids and the parents get to watch/mingle/cheer/wince?
