Timing?

Does timing effect your workouts? Do you do better in the morning..or evening? Does it not matter?

I perform best early afternoon, I think. Or late morning....

(My husband is supposed to arrange to use the base on gym and do StrongLifts with me, but hasn't yet, and I am just not doing well working out @5PM, so I will just do my own workout after lunch.)

I personally do better in the early evening or afternoon, if its too early I'm not functional enough and if its too late I'm sluggish and tired and also I HATE lifting on a full stomach, so after work but before dinner is good for me. ITs pretty normal for people to have preferences for workout time.

Late morning is my workout time of choice. My body is warmed up and I'm not tired. But I've been known to work out late night or early morning on days when I have plans.

I almost always do my lifting in the early morning, just because I like to get it out of the way. But on the few times that I do it in the afternoon, I always feel stronger. Probably because I've eaten throughout the day and have more energy. Recently I've started eating a mini-Clif bar and a cup of coffee right before my early a.m. workouts. On my rest days, I do some cardio, walking or yoga in the afternoon when I get home from work around 2:30. I guess I could try to do my lifting in the afternoon, but half the time I have errands or something going on that might cause me to skip it. I'd rather skip a cardio day than a lifting day, lol.

I lift at lunch - I can't motivate myself to wake up any earlier than necessary, and I'm exhausted by the time I leave work each day. Lunchtime (around 1:15ish) seems to hit the sweet spot of being awake enough, but also having energy to actually work out.

First thing in the morning for me! My gym is in my basement so I roll out of bed and off I go! Love it!

I'm good with anytime in the morning. By the afternoon I'm zapped.

Because I am SO not a morning person (and am doing well just to get to work on time), I lift after work, but before dinner, like Tameko, although if it’s been a super light food day (read: zero energy), I will eat a healthy supper and lift later. I love early afternoons on the weekends, though, except there are only two weekend days.

i'm a morning gal all the way. 7am workouts, done by 8am for breakfast and getting ready for work!

my energy depletes as the day goes on, and by 5pm i just want to go home, eat and walk my dog.

I work out when I feel ready...my work shifts are all over the place, some days are half days, I have three days off...so sometimes I get a workout in early afternoon after half days...sometimes I go in the evening when I feel rested. Weekends I can go either morning or afternoon. My body does not seem fussed. I even work out soon after eating or after not having eaten half the day...when I was a member of my other gym which opened until later, I worked out later (up until 10 p.m.) some nights. Also my rest day varies, so it could be Wednesday one week and another day the next depending on how I feel. As long as I get my six days of activity in (four lifting and two running at the moment), I am content. If I feel I am fatigued, though, I cut down on workouts.

I usually work out around 11:15. That is tucked in between my morning snack and lunch. It also is usually the earliest I will be out of any scheduled meetings at work. I've done earlier and I've done later, this time just works well for me.
