so...how far do you want to go? I just did Big Surr. Sold out though for 2013. All the fall Big East 2012 are gone. NYC, Marine Corps, Chicago etc... I am looking at Grandmas or Transverse, MI for a spring one and maybe even Glacier in Montanna.
San Fran marathon which just happened is a great one. Avenue of the Giants is suppose to be a great race.
I am in the South so....Charleston, SC. Kiawah, SC. Nashville, TN. Savannah GA,..and Chicago, Marine Corps and NYC..Big Surr, Ca. Ive done all those.0 -

Distantance doesn't really matter as long as there is good food my supporters will travel for great food and beer lol
I just did SF and looking for marathons for 20130 -
Anchorage AK - June (Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon) is great!
WA State has some really, really great marathons. My favorites are North Olympic Discovery (June) and Yakima River Canyon (April). Both of these are point-to-point and are very scenic. Of course the Seattle Marathon in November and Rock N Roll (June) are good too. There are a couple others that I find fun, but are pretty small.
Closer to CA is Portland OR. This is probably my favorite of all time. I've run this one twice. It's epic!
Honolulu is over-rated and too big. It was super humid the year I did it and I just didn't like the crowds and the weather.
Chicago is nice as well... but it's big.0 -
The Country Music Marathon is great fun..good crowd support, It is very large, has a corral start. It's in Nashville, last Saturday in April, weather can vary. There is also a street fair in Franklin TN, which is about 15 miles south of Nashville that weekend, good way to get up and moving on Sunday.0

I just signed up for the Richmond marathon. From what I hear it's a good one. Will see0

I think it all depends on your wants and needs. Some people love the RnR series, I personally avoid them like the plague.
Are you looking for an awesome destination or crowd support or a fast course? Are you willing to fly or should it be road trip?
For a fast course, you can't beat CIM in Sacramento - cool weather, net downhill course (but rolling for 19 miles - so train for hills).
For a scenic course, Big Sur is awesome (but sold out already).
NYC (and Boston) win for crowd support (IMHO) but NYC entry is by "lottery" unless you are crazy fast and can run a qualifying time (they just tightened the standards).
I've been wanting run Detroit, as you get to run into Canada on a bridge and then back underwater in a tunnel.

I hear Portland is terrific. I've also heard really good things about the Savannah Rock and Roll in November (if you're a RNR fan). Santa Barbara in November looks good too (I think Arc has run the full)
I know you didn't ask, but if you're considering any halfs, check out Santa to the Sea in Ventura in December. It's a gradual downhill. I'd also love to do the Wahine Woman's Half in Honolulu in April.
You're in for Long Beach, right?0 -
I would put my vote in for Philadelphia, Marine Corps (DC) and Steamtown (Scranton, PA) marathons. All of them are Boston Qualifiers.
Philly was relatively flat. DC had a few good hills at the end. Steamtown was 15 miles downhill and then some hills at the end.
I would like to give Run for the Red marathon in the Poconos, PA another shot. I didn't have such a great race this year (too warm for me).
I would like to run the Outer Banks (NC) and Rehoboth Beach (DE) marathons.0 -

I hear Ojai to Ocean in Cali is a fast net downhill course. I am not sure about scenic, because it runs through some farmland of Oxnard, but it starts in Santa Paula/Ventura. I am originally from Ventura county and want to do this sometime when I go back to visit my parents. Plus it's a small race, and they've gone "green" with everything - from the schwag bag, to the medal, to the shirt. PLUS, the weather is awesome, even in June.
I've done RnR New Orleans, and I LOVED that race. I'm a bit biased because it is my current PR race, but it's a fast flat as pancake course. I was blessed with great weather, but it takes you through parts of New Orleans that you wouldn't have thought to visit. Sure, it's crowded as it's an RnR one, but you'll get awesome crowd support.0
