I have one too. It's a watch. I just don't know what my heart rate should be; so the number I see means nothing to me.
    :/
How how do I know i know how many calories I burn based on my heart rate ?
  • My HRM has a chest strap and does the work for me. It's a Polar 4TF and I got it on Amazon for like $60. I'm sure there is some mathematical equation you could do to figure it out. Google it and see.

Some HRM's have a function that allows them to estimate your calorie burn. I have the Polar FT4 which has a chest strap (continuous monitoring) and it estimates calorie burn for me during workouts (you program in your height/weight/age and it uses that info along with your heartrate to constantly update an estimate of the calories it thinks you're burning). I also have a BodyMedia Fit armband that I wear all day.

I'm 120 lbs and on the cardio portions I can come close to 10 calories per minute according to my HRM. Not nearly as much on the cardio recovery days, since it's not high intensity like the cardio.

OP I think there are also some websites with formulas where you can plug in your average heartrate and tell it how long you were working out and it will give you an estimate of calories. Maybe someone has a link...

Thank you everyone. I just looked to see if my watch had the ability to calculate the calories I loose, and it does. I would have never known! I guess I should start reading a manual or something lol. It makes a lot more since now.

I just set all of my information to the watch and it calculates it for me. Big applause to technology :P

    Thank you all :-)

If that is the case, did you put all of the other setting in? Age, Height, Weight? It uses those to make that calculation.
