The 1/2 marathon as a longer term goal...

For me, the half marathon is my big goal for the next 12 months. There's a beautiful evening half marathon in my city at the beginning of August every year. That race is my goal race.
So far, I've lost 45 lbs using C25K. I've gone through the program once, and it resulted in a 40 minute 5K. I'm now on my second go-around (week 4), and I've already reduced my time to 33 minutes.
I'm going to finish my second trip through C25K, then move on to a 5K improver program (in preparation for the three other 5K's I've signed myself up for between now and February 2013). After that, I'll do a 5K to 10K training program to get myself used to the additional distance, then a 12 week program to train for a 10K event. My 10K training will end mere days before my first 10K race in April, 2013, with my second 10K late-May, and my third in June. After finishing the 10K training, I will start the half marathon training (which will also hopefully help me improve my 10K times!). It's also a 12 week program that will conclude in late July, just in time for my half marathon goal race, my 33rd birthday, and my wedding! My ultimate goal is to be in better shape at 33 than I was as a teenager.
The program I'm using is Rundouble, which is an app made for Android, and likely iPhone too. It's excellent for tracking and motivation.
I'm wondering if there are any other folks out there who have the half as a longer term goal? Please friend me if you are! I love to give and receive support.

Hey there! I'm a fairly new runner, running my first official race tomorrow, a 4.8 mile run, and I'm planning to do a 10k in October or November. There's a half-marathon back in my hometown next April that I've been considering, though it seems like such a long run....but THAT's why I joined this group! So maybe by posting here, and offering a friendship to you, I can commit myself to a running goal I never would've dreamed I could consider just a year ago.
Let's run!0 -

Whoo! And I'm going to check the registration site for my hometown marathon every week until it opens up. I'm going to run a HALF MARATHON, doggone it! And so are YOU!

I just started training for my first half this week, so I guess it's a short-term goal for me. I've been running for a couple of years now but I'm still fairly slow since I've got some weight left to lose yet. But I don't care, running is a challenge like no other. Congrats on setting a half as a fitness goal!!0
