After my last Blood Test - which my reading was 0.09 again- Dr. wants me to adjust my dosage. Take 30 then 60-alternate!!! Well, I tried that and I was so whacked-flipping out for NO reason, short tempered and hyper!!!! So, last night I decided to split my 90 in 1/2 and still get my 90 in 2 days. So far so GOOD!!! Making my Husband HAPPY!!! The last couple days have been terrible for him. I was taking my moods out on him!!! I did apologize to him last night. We both agreed it was my Meds.
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

Keep it up. I had a few months of out of whack getting adjusted to the armour and finding my dose. I personally love how I feel on it compared to the synthroid.

Just keep talking. Glad your husband is supportive.

Had to fight with my Dr. to put me Armour. Would not go back to synthroid, feel much better.

Took a while to get my dose right but I'm on track and doing great now.

It does take some time to get used to Armour -- I started on it in January at 60 mcg a day -- 30 in the am and 30 in the pm. Then in March went up to 90 mcg a day - 45 in the am and 45 in the pm.... 2 weeks ago he increased me to 120 mcg per day - 60/60.

Although my TSH, T3 and T4 levels were all in the "normal" range, he was not happy that my T4 was on the high side of normal and my T3 was on the low side of normal -- he wants it to be the other way around.

Armour has a short half-life - it goes out of your system pretty fast -- so getting your dose to be evenly distributed should help.
Also, chew it up into a paste before you swallow it -- it is super helpful in absorption -- and chug down a big glass of water after you chew it up.

If you don't have relief from hypo symptoms when on Armour, it generally means that you have low Ferritin/Iron, adrenal fatigue or both... no thyroid medication will work properly if either of those if not optimized.

Since I changed my dosage to 45 instead of 30/60- I feel so much better. I haven't said anything to my Dr. I had to contact them again about a Referral to a Endocrinologist. I have an appt. Oct. 1st. but will have blood work done before that. They haven't sent me paperwork for it so I might just delay Blood Work until after my Oct. appt.
Between my Thyroid and my Vit. D Deficiency-I'm dosing myself. Who needs PCP's????
    Thanks for all your input.

I'm sure feeling better on Armour. Today I had my TSH tested and it was 2.9 (the high side of good, I guess). This time I got the Dr. that seems to be more "with it" on T3 & T4, so he gave me a slip to have those checked again next month. But since I am feeling so well, he left me on the same dose. I think I'd better make a point of seeing him next month, as the other Dr just ignores the T3, T4 & symptoms (I go to a walk-in clinic).

One thing the Dr's both seem to agree on, is it takes a while to find the right dosage & each person is unique. So I think you did right, knowing how you were feeling to figure out the dosage that works for you. One question though, how on earth do you take a dose in the evening? I enjoy my coffee's too much!

I have to alternate my Armour dosage as well (I've been on it for several years).

What I've found is that on the days I have to take a full dose (180, or three pills of the 60 dosage), I do best when I break up the dosage. I will take two pills (totaling 120) in the morning, and one (60) in the early afternoon around 2pm. If I take the full dose in the morning, I'm hyper and emotionally volatile throughout the day, and even have a difficult time falling asleep. On days when I only take a dose of 150 (2-1/2 pills), I can take them all at the same time in the morning and feel just fine.

P.S.- If it sounds like I'm on a really high dosage, it's because I don't have a thyroid anymore, and rely exclusively on Armour to provide me with thyroid hormones. :-)

I agree with above that I would never go back to synthroid/lovothyroxine. I have been on Armour for several years and take a total dose of 150 mg per day, 90 in the am and 60 in the pm. This has been working for me very well for the last few years. I see a doctor of osteopothy who looks at all my blood work and levels and helps me figure out what supplements, hormones and other meds I need to balance out my hypothyroidism, diabetes, menopause, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, vitamin dificiencies and various other things that don't work quite right in my body. It has made soooooooooooo much difference in my quality of life! Although I got some reliefe from the doctor that first diagnosed my extreme hypothyroidism and put me on levothyroxine, it wasn't until I found a doctor that would look at all of me that I felt "alive" again.
