How much Synthroid do you take?

I have been rotating between 75mcg and 150mcg every other day for the last 2 months or so. I had my levels checked again last week and they were still low. Doctor has put me on 150 mcg twice a day and refered me to an Endocrinologist. This dosage seemed very high to me. Does anyone else take a high dosage??

150mcg twice a day seems very high to me. I'm on Lovexothryne which is just a different version of Synthroid and I am on 175mcg per day and my levels were awful. I started with a TSH at 252 (no decimal points in there).

Do you know what your lab results were? I was immediately referred to an Endo when my labs came back from primary doc as high.

I get my thyroid tested almost every 3 months. I'm at 125 mcg and my numbers are always under 2 when I get my results back.

I take 100mcg recently upped from 75mcg of Levothyroxine once a day. That does seem like a very high dose, I'd try to find an endo and see them about it. I need to begin seeing one as well. Did you notice any symptoms?

I take 88mcg a day and cytomel 5mg. in a.m. and about 2 1/2 at noon. I have 1/2 of my thyroid. Your dose depends on your health issues. Is seems as if your doctor realizes he/she can not handle the problem and is making a long needed referral to a specialist. I NEVER see anyone but a specialist as internists know very little about thyroids and think they know a lot. Good luck.
My doc ALWAYS checks my T3 and T4 and TSH

NONE - - took that stuff for 15 years and was sick the entire time. I have been taking Armour Thyroid since January -- I am now off of all cholesterol and blood pressure medicine and lost 16 pounds.

When I was on Synthroid, I had bottles of it in every dosage in my medicine cabinet -- I had blood work at least 3-4 times a year and they changed my dosage up and down so much -- everything between 88 mcg and 250 mcg. It was ridiculous.

If you want to read about hypothroidism and Synthetic T4 (Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc.) read this: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/t4-only-meds-dont-work/

Your TSH is not a good indication of how your thyroid is doing - TSH is not produced by your thyroid - it's produced by your pituitary and is an indication of how much T4 you have. But T4 is an inactive hormone and it doesn't do anything for your metabolism. The key is whether your thyroid and liver and a few other cells can convert the T4 to T3 which is the active hormone -- T3 is what runs our bodies - it is used by skin, organs, brain, everything.

These stupid doctors give us T4, then test our TSH - but most of them never look at your T3 levels.

I am taking 88mcg. I am relatively new to the medication. I have my level checked every 3 months and it has been steadily increased every time so far.

i am new to this as well i had my surgery july 26 and i have been on 100 mcg of levothyroxine every since then. i still am hungry all of the time and my hands and feet be like ice cubes. went to the endo last week and he stated that my t3 was low and to continue taking my meds and then see him in 4-6 weeks but take the blood work a week before the appt. this is oh so frustrating

It is a high dose but I don't think its unheard of. At one point in my life I was taking 250 mcg daily of Synthroid. Now that my health is a whole lot better than what it was and I've gotten everything under control...I take 125 mcg of Synthroid and two doses of 5 mcg of Cytomel every day.

Armour has been back for a while. It sometimes goes through cycles where it is harder to find. When that happens I call every pharmacy in the area, an mix/match pill sizes till it is here again. Haven't had an issue finding it for a few years now.

Thanks. I had trouble finding it 2 yrs ago, then I went off meds for a while, and now I have been on synthoid for 8 months. I would like to go back to armour.

I talked my doctor into putting me on Armour. I'll never go back to synthroid. I feel much better once the dose was adjusted.

I was on Synthroid for over 2 yrs...I felt awful when I was on it. I have been on Armour now for just over a year and will never take Synthroid again. Check out stopthethyroidmadness for a lot of useful info. Good luck to you!

I had been on 50 mcg daily until I had a total thyroidectomy. Now, I alternate between 200 and 175 mcg of levothyroxine. I need to have my blood drawn next week. I'm still not feeling right. It's very frustrating.
