Hives

We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant yesterday and I had scrambled egg with chorizo with half an avocado. That evening, I started itching all over. I went to bed and couldn’t stand the itching, so got up and took a cool shower. I still itched so I went downstairs and turned on the Olympics so my wife could sleep, and scratched until the “Appointment Nurse” started answering phones on Sunday. I got an appointment for this morning and just got back. I am covered from head to toe with hives from an allergic reaction to something. My wrist, lip and heel are all swollen, I can barely walk.
I eat eggs several times a week, an avocado every day and have had chorizo many times. I eat Farmers Market fruits and veggies and lean meat, nothing different there. I haven’t changed any medications, soaps or anything else.
I got some antihistamines to control the itching but I am not supposed to take them until this evening. I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow morning to confirm that it is hives, and then The Bride and I are going up the Northern California Coast for three days. Nice and romantic! So much for long walks on the beach at sunset.
I’m just *****ing and scratching, Thanks for listening.

Wow, that sounds miserable. Just a thought, about a month ago I got really sick, muscle pain, rash felt horrible. Long story short I had developed an allergy to a drug that I had taken for years. It contained sulfa which for some reason I suddenly developed an allergy too. So, even though you have not changed meds you can still develop an allergy to what you have been on. In my case it was a HBP med called HCZT which is a diuretic. Hope you feel better.0

68th birthday present.
This week was a rough one. I was incapacitated with hives covering me from head to heel and extreme joint pain. I spent the last three days in the hospital, being diagnosed with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome caused by in internal infection, possibly leading to elevated levels of lactic acid, which resulted in the sudden onset of Rheumatoid Arthritis to all my major joints. The pain is now controlled by the use of steroids which has caused three major complications, elevated blood sugar (up to 390) resulting in being placed on insulin, increased blood pressure and heart rate and it has put me in continues Atrial Fibrillation. The AF is further complicated by the high heart rate, Resting heart rate was 45-60, now 75-90 BPM) with 120 BPM being in the danger zone of causing a heart attack or stroke. I hit 130 just walking to the bathroom. But I'm home now and working on better.0 -
Hope you are feeling better soon. I am glad they found out what was going on. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. Will the RA go away after the infection is controlled? Feel better!!0

Thank you sspahn49. They are still testing for allergies, environmental, infectious diseases, etc. Some of the tests take longer to get the results. I was in Europe for several weeks so they are testing me for something that I could have picked up over there or on the ship/plane loaded with world travelers.0
