Calories on Induction

I'm just getting started with induction, and I'm often unsuccessful with low carb eating because I'm just so hungry. The foods that I've prepared that are induction-friendly, are also very caloric. So I feel like I'm just not getting as much food (bulk-wise) as I did with a more carbohydrate-rich diet.

I'm wondering if the reason I've been unsuccessful is because I'm still trying to hit 1200-1500 calories a day, limiting calories, as well as only 20 net carbs. Maybe those two just can't coexist?? To make matters worse, I feel like that the more I try to stop myself from eating, the more I want to eat! Vicious cycle, for sure!

I'm thinking about doing a week of induction where I'm just focused on getting the food choices down, then next week I can work on getting those choices to fill me up without so many calories. Any advice? Thanks :)

That's a good plan. Use the first week or 2 to work on breaking your carb addiction. Eat what you feel compelled to(within reason of course) and dont even worry about the calories. By the end of a second week, breaking the carb addiction will also reduce your appetite. That's how it works for me. I have days now and then when I want to eat a horse...but most days I'm fully in control of it now. I've been on extended induction for 10 weeks now....20-25 real carbs(not net) per day, and I'm down 29 pounds. I hope you find what works for you and your body:)
  • Wow, nice job on the 29 lbs! I am going to do exactly that.. work on breaking the carb addiction and see where I am. I tend to have a hard time having faith in the "system", and I'm terrified that I'm going to stop watching calories too closely and then gain 4 lbs. in my first week of induction.

Ironically, the more I obsess, the more I end up overeating from the stress :) So maybe I'll just relax, focus on whipping up some good induction friendly recipes and then chill out and just eat if I'm hungry.

(Side note: just realized I'm due to start my cycle in two days. I'm sure that is a contributing factor to my hunger.)

Just relax and trust in the "system." A lot of people have gone before us and are succeeding. On Friday, I hit my first full month of atkins. I do not pay any attention to calories yet. I've only lost 10 pounds, and the scale wasn't budging, but the inches definitely were falling off. The first couple of weeks are the toughest, and especially days 2-4. Atkins flu sets in and the withdrawl hits. Eat when you are hungry. Be prepared with induction friendly snacks and know that this too shall pass. Believe it or not, by the end of that first week, your appetite drops significantly. I actually have to remind myself to eat now, which when I first started I would have thought was crazy talk. lol
