Stones versus pounds?

I know Americans use pounds only, and a stone is as foreign to them as a cup [in recipe measurement] is to us, and most of use Brits convert our Stones as an aid in postings

However I do think we on this side of the ocean have a slight advantage using stones, at least we can limit our moveable goal to the next stone down, it just does not seem to bad, and more achievable, to say "Nearly 16 stone, only 3 more to go" instead of "Nearly 224, only 42 more to go"

Or is just me going from stone to stone?

yeah I think the same. I aim for the next stone but then I suppose Onderland is a big thing for lb users.

I do like the fact that stones seem soooooo much lower than lbs!! ha ha

Good point, but, I have to admit, saying I've lost 43lbs 'feels' better than I've lost 3stones. And lb targets are easier to work towards than stones. Again, right now after the weight I've gained recently, I just want to get below 14st again!

I agree, for me, mentally it's easier to say I need to lose 3 stones but when you finally lose it I'd rather say I lost 42 lol.
  • I prefer weighing in lbs, but whenever someone asks me how much I've lost I have to tell them in stones as they just give me a blank look!

I think same sort of thing applies with weather forecasts when they say xx mm / cm of rain or snow fell they always make it 2inches or 8inches if it is a lot, then at least every one understands it was really bad

I also weigh in pounds, but am pleased I have lost 1 stone so far

I definitely prefer stones, and I think of my weight loss so far as "just over a stone and a half" rather than "23lbs". I only think of babies as weighing in pounds!

Funny isn't it, all UK babies are in pounds, once again so everyone knows how big they are, no point telling granny he was 3.82 kilos :-)

And you'd never say that a 7lb baby was "half a stone"
