OK, sorry I didn't introduce myself when I first started. I am a 48 mom of 2 ever growing boys. My cycles are definitely getting longer in between...I'm going on 9 weeks right now.

Luckily, night sweats are not a problem...yet. However, I do wake up much more often and am suffering from the horrid foot and leg cramps.

I lose my mind on occasion but have my prozac for that. I started taking it full time about 8 months ago. Minimum dosage but it keeps the snarling down a it.

I too, am new to this group! I am also 48, no kids and have been suffering with peri/menopause for a little over a year now. I have godawful hot flashes as my main symptom but also joint aches and, of course, weight GAIN. I used effexor for about 6 months but didn't like feeling like a loser slob who only wanted to sleep all the time (it DID eliminate the hot flashes though). I'm back to the drawing board looking for something to get rid of my hot flashes, so I'm very glad to have found this group.

I haven't had a period for ALMOST a year. When I was getting them I would get two back to back about every other month and basically bled to death each time. I do not miss them at all and I hope that I am finally done with THAT.

    Hey Sherdenise,

I'm currently about the 'every other month' stage. Here I was, 9 weeks out - thinking "HAZZAH!", and guess what I wake up to????

Cramps and, as fondly referred to in this group "an epic flood"...I'm just glad that I am alone in the office today.

I use to be a person who was always cold. Now I sleep with a fan on (even in winter) and I live in Spokane...It will be interesting to see what happens when a real 'hot flash' hits...although I am REALLY hoping to avoid it.
  • I just stumbled across (and joined) this group today. I am 49 and think I was in denial of the fact that age is catching up with me, along with all the lovely events that come with it. Aunty Flo still visits me regularly and I am not absolutely certain that I have entered the menopausal stage. But I have noticed that I do occasionally have night sweats which wake me up regardless of the temperature in the room. I feel bloated more often then I have at any other point in my life. I decided to join to try to determine if I am in fact becoming a "member of this group". In any case, if not now, then I will be soon. Knowledge is sometimes 1/2 the battle, so where better to learn then from women that are already there! ?!?!

    Doreen,

You are probably in the right place. I too was in denial. However, 2 mo w/o a cycle, 2x in a row is Mother Nature smacking the back of my head...Well, that AND the gray streaks that are making their way through my hair.

Regarding the bloating, I have to say that I see the same thing. I feel like PMS for a solid 2-3 weeks. The belly pooches out for NO GODLY KNOWN REASON...I mean, I don't mind if I've overindulged, but PLEASE!

I will send you a friend request shortly. Just reading a lot of the posts from this group let you know that you are not alone.
