Advice Needed- Keeping a Healthy Balance

Hi PPP!
I need some help. I'm 8 mos post partum and still breast-feeding (pumping exclusively). I gained so much weight during my first pregnancy-roughly 70 lbs. BIG MISTAKE!!! I always told myself I would never be that person. I lost a good amount of weight and was vigorously exercising to be in a friends wedding in July. I lost about 40 lbs. After the wedding was over I stopped exercising and focused on baby. Then my eating habits slipped. I gained 4 lbs since July 13. Which is a typical pattern (I'm a yo-yo dieter [not on purpose]) I've recently gained the motivation from a friend who is also in the same position (had her baby 3 weeks before me). I "caught her bug" so to speak and I'm back on track with exercising and eating better. I still have 30 lbs to go for my 1st goal. Ultimate goal will be established once I reach the 30 lb weight loss.
So I guess my question is this:
As a mom who works full-time and a wife...How do you fit it all in?! Healthy eating, exercising, keeping a clean home, playing with baby, and being a good wife? I'm struggling with balance. help!

Most important is diet. Get your meals in order.
When I worked, I either exercised at home with DVDs in the morning or in the tiny gym at work before going home.
Determine what you can realistically fit into your daily life for exercise and schedule it.0 -
When you're at work, where's your baby? Can you keep them in childcare an extra hour so you can hit the gym/go to the pool/go for a jog etc? Or can your husband watch your baby while you go to the gym in the evening?
I work part time, and I have 2 children, age 3 and 15 months. My husband does shift work, so I just fit my gymming around that on the days I don't work, and on the days I do work my kids are at nursery until 6. I'm a teacher so finish at 3, so I just go to the gym straight from work before picking them up.
You just have to have a routine and you'll find it all falls into place. With a child(ren) your home is never going to be perfect, but I just make sure stuff gets tidied after they go to bed, and things like the hoovering and dishwasher can get done with them 'helping'. I plan for easy meals when my husband's on late shift and i'm on my own, so just things like chicken and veg, and anything more complicated i leave for when my husband's on early shift and can watch the kids while I cook.
I take a healthy lunch to work - salad, fruit, yoghurt, that kind of thing. In my job we don't get a lot of time to sit about and eat anyway!
I've lost 42lbs over the past year and am smaller than I was before I had my first child, but i'd still like to lose maybe 15-20lbs to be properly thin!0 -
Thanks everyone for your advice! I bought an inexpensive jogging stroller and started to jog a little bit here and there. My little guy is in daycare almost until they close. My husband and I carpool to work which makes it a little more difficult. BUT- I did find a hidden free (VERY SMALL) gym in my work bldg. I'm going to see if I can't fit in 20 mins of a jog on my lunchbreak. I think I need to take more time during the weekend to prepare meals for the week. I've decided to give up sugar at least for a while until I can get my "addiction" under control. I'm hoping this helps whittle the waistline as well!0

I think you are so right! Planning is key. The past coupleof weeks I have been bringing 2 hardboiled eggs to work as a snack. The protein helps me feel full longer and they are very low calorie at about 80 calories each. The tricky part is remembering to hard boil them before the work week starts because that's when life gets crazy! I have 6 month old twin girls. I have just started my weight loss journey. I stopped pumping this week and next week will begin doing elliptical during the time in the evening that I used to pump after the girls go to bed.
I will say, balance is a tricky thing and I don't think I will ever have it perfect. I think it's constantly assessing and reassessing and prioritizing and making those big and small decisions along the way. You just have to remember to make yourself a priority too Good luck to you!0
